Making a trip from Maryland to Knoxville , TN to move our daughter in at college . Wondering what places to stop at for cans and crowlers for take home . Of course trying to find juicy IPA's .
Roanoke may be your best option, but some Virginia folks will certainly know points north. All in all the area is pretty remote, but good beer seems to pop up in good places to live- and the Shenandoah and Blue Ridge are great places to live!
Might be better in the regional forum (which one, given VA's position). I'm not sure anyone in VA is doing the juicy IPA thing other than Aslin, which is obviously your avatar. Roanoke does have a few breweries around them, including a "trail." If you head down 29 to Charlottesville before taking I64 to I81, you could hit a few more. None of the larger, more established breweries that I know of in central and southwest VA are uber-IPA focused. Some newer ones may be. Sorry to be a downer, but I honestly don't think you're going to find an Aslin-like brewery on that route. I'd be happy if others know I am wrong. Brothers, Devil's Backbone, and a few around Roanoke I think are all within reasonable drive off the I-81 corridor (maybe Blue Mountain - especially if you go 29).
