Planning a trip on I-81 during Christmas week and am looking for stores that sell beers I cannot get in NY. Any help is appreciated.
Al's of Hampden in Enola, PA (like 1 mile off I-81)... Also, has decent food since it is also a pizza place and some of their own brews.
He stated he was looking for places along I-81 where he could get beers not available in NY. I just did a similar trip myself and was letting him know one of the places, depending on where he is headed he could be going through NJ, PA, MD, WV, VA, NC, etc... Also, I did not see a corresponding post in the Mid Atlantic forum so I put this suggestion in this response. I guess if you need to be the forum **** - all the more power to you but you should know you come across as a douche that did not fully read the initial post.
I apologized without name calling, I have done my part. I have apologized without name calling. I have done my part. Fin
I guess our posts crossed in the ether - I open a bunch of tabs to read and respond to the forums while I am sitting here drinking beer and watching football. I stand by my response (even though it may not be perfectly placed in the correct forum) as I recently had to post to multiple forums to try and get some of the very same information - since he makes reference to what he can get in NY and he posted this in South Atlantic, I know that driving on I-81 he will go through PA and this place is worth the stop. I would have made less comments about your initial post if you had even offered a suggestion to the original post rather than just blasting out "Wrong forum" - I guess I am of the opinion if you cannot take the time to fully read the post (and response) and have nothing worthwhile to add, you ought to just not respond.
Additionally, if you look back a couple of weeks I asked a similar question and someone posted that Blue Mountain Brewery is near Staunton, VA (I have tried a couple of their beers including Full Nelson and they are pretty decent). Link to my post in Mid Atlantic forum so you can see the responses. Link to my post in South Atlantic forum so you can see the responses.
81 goes by some nice breweries in VA, as they said, Blue Mountain is shortly off I81, and its definately worth a stop. By far the most beautiful brewery setting I have ever seen with the mountains and everything, its awesome. Anyway, Devils Backbone and Wild Wolf are right down the road from there. Devils Backbone as you may know won a bunch of GABF medals this year. Wild Wolf I think had at least a dozen different drafts when I went there. If you go by charlottsville there is a shop/restaurant called Beer Run that has some good stuff. There are some smaller breweries around the area, Queen City brewing in Staunton is a cool spot that lets you brew beer on their equipment, you can also get pretty cheap growlers of their pretty ok beer, but I thought their Barleywine was quite good. Further down 81 there is the Devils Backbone outpost brewery. There is a small brewpub in Lexington called Blue Lab brewing, their beer was unimpressive but I mention them because you can buy a mason jar filled with beer with a lid, to go, badass.
