Hi I havent brewed an extract batch in a long time and i am doing so this week end ( long story ) I can't seem to remember if i can use whet grains along with crystal 40 in the steeping grains or if i must use flaked wheat as it wont be a full mash ? Thanks

Wheat Malt needs to be mashed vs. steeped.

Flaked Wheat has no diastatic power so some malted grains are needed with this grain.

    Cheers!

ok so if i steep with crystal 40 for 45 mins at 153 it should be fine with flaked wheat?

Based on what Jack said, in your case it's best to use the wheat malt (not the flaked wheat) with the Crystal Malt and mash it together at 153.

No. Wheat needs mashed. It's a base malt. Unless it's Midnight Wheat or some type of caramel wheat, it will need mashed.
