Good call. I was around the mid-2000s in Montreal and had all the terrible stuffs (Wildcat, Molson, Labatt) before some nice québécois, or was it a bartender... suggested I tried Unibroue.

Like you, I did enjoy the cheap buzz these brews offered (not so much the hangover), but I eventually settled for Unibroue, would have been a shame not to hear of them being there for a bit.

    Molson Canadian

After politely refusing one from a neighbouring camper a few times (since I had a beer in my hand already) I finally caved and let him hand one over. I'd say I milked that beer for at least an hour as I hid my grimacing face with a fake smile after every sip. I took one for the team here!

I've never loved macro beer, but at least some of it is drinkable. Molson Canadian however just tastes like what I can only imagine true monkey pee tastes like. I knew it was bad, but forgot just how bad.

Blue Moon. One of the first beers I ever liked, but I moved way past it fast. If it's one of the few things someone has in their fridge I'll think "Yeah, I can have one of those, it's drinkable", but it's always too sweet and has an artificial feel to it, so I can never finish it. Now I just avoid it all together.

Redhook Longhammer. The reason I used to hate IPAs. Now IPA is 80% of what I drink, and Longhammer still sucks

Bass has always tasted like a bottle full of water steeped in pennies to me, but since I have a friend who drinks it, enough time will pass that I'll eventually decide to give it another go every so often.

And it's still pennies, all the way down.

Sadly, most of the English beers I've had recently fall into this category. Various offerings from Fullers, Newcastle, Samuel Smith, etc. I remember really liking these beers 5-10 years ago. Now I can't stand them

Sorry, but I was voted the guy to mention how distressing it is that you know what bug spray tastes like

And also the guy to mention that the Shock Top probably tastes worse than the bug spray.

Wow -- talk about palate shift. I used to drink these beers all the time (well, not Newcastle), long before the Micro Boom®, and I still go back to them now and again -- and thoroughly enjoy them.

Sure, they aren't hop-bombs or high-octane head-bangers, like today's favorites, but a Fuller's ESB, Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout or Young's Winter Warmer are still world-class beers (in my opinion and many others').

In England the Fullers are quite good. I no longer buy them in the US as they are almost always stale.

Bad for me? New breweries that have water issues, don't have the brewing experience to know what to do and make crap beer. Chlorophenols at one, that was a surprise. Alka Seltzer beer due to high alkalinity at many others around here.

    Just remembered another: Sam Summer.

I'm not a Sam Adams hater at all (I buy Winter Lager every year in fact) but every summer I end up having one somewhere and it always tastes like there's something wrong with it - as if they can't possibly have meant for it to taste that way.

You have to be born into the cult. ; )
I grew up with it, and never liked it either, though at times I could tolerate it in small doses.

When working at nuclear facility outside of Saratoga NY in the late 80s, I found the Genny cream ale hangover after a big Friday after a 15 day stretch was the only thing I could find that had matched the case of Little Kings hangover from the college days.

    Whew.

Every time I've ever had another Corona, it hits me, this is truly shit.

Corona and Heineken are beyond terrible. At weddings I'd rather pay for Bourbon than drink either of those two beers.

I've been pretty disappointed with Great Divides beers. They always have some strange harshness to them.

Ballast Point Watermelon Dorado. I tried it and thought it was the worst thing I ever tasted. But figured maybe I got an old bottle so got another one and yup, still the worst thing I ever tasted.
