Boy King. In a craft beer world that seems to be flooded with mediocre, overly sweet DIPAs (either malt forward or Citra-type dominate DIPA's), COAST Boy King is an old school explosing of dank, resionous, pine and juniper. Props to the people at COAST for this masterpiece.

Is it easy to come by? I'm heading to myrtle soon and would love to pick some up.

Are you saying you don't like Citra? #blasphemy

Had a buddy at Myrtle last week and he was "too busy" to go get me some Boy King. We might not be buddies anymore.

I actually very much like Citra hops (i think Boy King has some citra hops actuall, as well as other varieties) I just think that Citra dominant hop profiles don't blend so well with DIPAs with heavy sweet malt components. Kind of makes for a one dimension flavor profile.

Boy king is actually brewed to emphasize Citra hop character. It undoubtedly has a big peachy, mango profile. However, 5 other hop varieties are also used to balance it out and make Boy King amongst the best DIPA's in the world IMO

this doesn't really have anything to do with boy king but i really love citra as much as the next guy but i gotta say i enjoy simcoe, nelson sauvin, galaxy, etc. equally as much...if not even moreso.

it's too bad that the citra obsession makes it nearly impossible to keep in stock for homebrewers but it is what it is i guess. the aforementioned hops aren't easily kept in stock either.

Haha Fair enough. I was just being a smartass. I totally agree with you regarding overly malty/sweet. If you want to make an American Barleywine, call it that. Maybe I'm overly sensitive to it, but even some super highly regarded IIPAs on here (Dreadnaught for one), I find to be wayyyy too sweet and distracting to the overall experience.

I have to say this recent batch is really a return to the good days. The past few batches before this one though I thought were overly sweet.

It is not easy to get. Don't think you'll find any in Myrtle. I'm heading to Charleston on Sunday. A buddy already got me some from the Brewery. If you can't find any then I'll send you one of mine. I have plenty. Consider it a thanks for letting me join your crew at the BASC release.
