A few months ago, a friend's wife invited me to his surprise birthday party. By chance, my wife called her for something and my friend's wife told her that there was only going to be wine and soft drinks at the party. Holy shit, was I freaked out. The friend's wife's idea of beer comes from her father who only drank shit beer and did so to excess, but IMO, that's no reason to not offer it at an adult party. When we got there, sure enough, no beer at all so my wife made a quick trip to get some and all was ok.

Now the friend's wife has asked us if we want to go to dinner together. We've been before and they picked the place, so it's our turn now.

What I'm looking for is a restaurant within 25 miles or so of Westchester County, NY that serves craft beer and either no wine or real shit wine. Payback is a bitch.

Haha - a little harsh no? Doesn't sound like she was intentionally f**king you over

You could go full bore, and go to Peekskill brewery for dinner?

No, I'm sure she wasn't trying to f*&% me or anybody else over. It was the principal of not having beer when she had to know there were at least a dozen beer drinkers going to be there [two of the guests owned a small beer store back in the 80s]. And I did forget to mention, her husband [my friend] doesn't really drink at all so if there was beer there, it would have been macro lager [but the principal still applies].

Yes, Peekskill is a finalist but I believe they do have some wine. I'll have to go over there and check.

Yeah just checked online and they do have a dozen or so wines. Nothing that sounds like a wine-lover would be frothing at the mouth over though

Good. Thanx for the info. Saved me a trip. Maybe. I still have an excuse.

But come to think of it, maybe I don't need to look any farther. Whether they have decent wine or not, I have come to the conclusion that going out to dinner at a brewery would be sufficient payback.

Maybe she wanted to prevent the party from turning into a drunken shit show? Maybe she wanted her husband to be sufficiently sober to enjoy some "alone time" later?

I know this isn't the "help @otispdriftwood deal with his problems" forum, but you're not going to make any friends in this situation by being an asshole. Instead, isn't it an opportunity to create a space in which she feels safe, but where there are delicious craft beer options that she might be able to try? Perhaps a place that has some more "accessible" beers, like fruit-forward IPAs, fruity saisons, drier and slightly sour beers, or even chocolatey imperial stouts (depending on her wine preferences)? Seems like you're currently aiming to make beer drinkers look like even bigger assholes, instead of helping create another beer advocate.

I stand with @otispdriftwood on this one. I can't stand people who think all beer tastes like crap or insists on not catering to beer drinkers. I am probably prjecting here, but I agree with his plan to take her out of her element, and force her to try good beer or drink nothing at all.

The hostess of the party had plenty of wine available but I guess you can't get drunk on wine and turn a party into a drunken shit show. And I guess I didn't make it clear - the host of the party is a wine drinker. And one of my posts states that her father is a beeraholic so I don't think she'll ever touch the stuff.

And I'm not trying to make any friends - her husband is already a friend. Of course, I didn't mention that I once had a real estate deal with her - she's an agent, I'm an attorney in a state where attorneys are involved in the transaction and it didn't turn out well due to her actions. Needless to say, I've had a chip on my shoulder toward her since then.

But it still doesn't take away from my original premise - the principal that she didn't bother to have any beer at all available.

Thanx for the suggestions. Seems like you cook like I do. Winging it sometimes produces great results but unfortunately they can't be duplicated. However, when the results suck, I'm glad they can't be duplicated.

It's one thing to be upset about no beer at the party, it's another thing to plot revenge on the woman and ask for advice/help on how to that. It's no wonder there are people that look down on the craft beer community.
