I need an faucet adapter that apparently doesn't exist.

First of all, I know it exists... If I've thought about it, the chances are that somebody smarter has thought of it way before me, and put it on the market, so maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Here's my situation:

I moved into an apartment and couldn't bring all of my all-grain equipment with me, space was limited. So I decided to buy a Grainfather. It's beautiful, so I wanted to break it in right away. PROBLEM: Can't hook up the counter flow wort chiller it comes with to the faucet in my kitchen because it is one of those "pull out kitchen faucets". The head of it screws right off, it's got a male end on it. I figure its about a 3/8 fitting, plastic too. So I set off to Home Depot looking for a plastic male adapter with a small-ish barb to hook up to the leftover female end. First guy I find in the aisle says it doesn't exist, I didn't believe him so I went looking. He felt bad for being too impatient to hear me out so he came back and took me up and down the aisles and we couldn't find anything that would fit into the female...we found a 3/8 brass male adapter with the right size barb, but the threading was wrong so it wouldn't turn into the female (they had a pull out faucet on display). Can someone please help me find what I need, or at least set me off into the right direction?

Note: I want to use the faucet in my kitchen, not the washer hookup in my bathroom. I'm not going to wrench that off every time I want to brew, water would go all behind the washer as well and that is not convenient so please don't even suggest it, already thought about it, don't want to do it. I'm looking for the part. Thanks in advance to everyone willing to help

I searched Google for "3/8 npt male barb plastic" . . . quite a few available, even more in brass.

Problem now is, if I order one of these and the threading ends up being wrong I'll have to wait even longer until I can brew. Wish there was a physical store that had them in San Antonio. The Home Depot surely didn't.

Suggest taking the head of your faucet (male threaded end) to the hardware store and find a nut that fits it . . . that is your size. Unless your faucet was made in US, Thailand, or Liberia it's probably metric.

Worst case scenario you could split your supply line under the sink, then if you ever decided to add a filter just for your brewing, you would be set up. Good luck finding the proper fitting, it is a PITA

Try a plumbing distributor - Ferguson is probably your best bet on that end. The staff there should have a better knowledge of plumbing products than the Home Depot employees.

Perhaps you could do something like I did, shown in the picture below.

I think somebody's just trying to show off that their under-sink cabinets are clean!

That's awesome - but all I can think of is how quickly my son would fip open those valves and flood my kitchen/laundry room/wherever, scald himself in a shower of hot water, or both the VERY FIRST TIME I failed to put the child-proof latch back on. Kid practically *lives* in our kitchen cabinets and drawers. :grinning:

I was about to ask where this picture was taken, I have never seen the area under a kitchen sink that looks like that

I'd bet a lot they don't still look like that! Picture taken shortly after installation @utahbeerdude?

Or put a hose splitter on your washing machine hook ups. One line dedicate for the washer, another for a hose for your chiller. $5 part at the hardware store. No welding or plumber required, or screwing it on and off required.

While not shown in the picture, I keep caps screwed on both connectors when not in use.

Indeed, taken just after painting the interior of the cabinet and installing the fittings.
