Haha yes, I have had the more mainline beers like Yuengling, Sierra Nevada, Blue Moon, Stella and Heineken.

You should drive pretty close to Wild Wolf, Devil's Backbone, and Blue Mountain Brewery (all are relatively close to the highway). I've stopped at all three at different times for lunch and a few brews. Any of them are worth the stop.

Applying this advice, find a TOTAL WINE. They have some serious craft selections (not to mention wine and spirits) and are located in the MD/VA area. They usually have 6-packs you can assemble (no flat rate, cost depends on what you get), which enables you to pick up a whole lot more variety than you think.

Hit up Old Farm Liquors in Frederick. That is my go-to when we visit the in-laws. Good selection and very good prices. The only downside is that you can only do singles on some 12oz. bottles. They have a rack of the most recent bombers on the right when you walk in the door. Ye Old Spirit Shop in Frederick is ok too, but I have stopped going there because their prices are 25%+ higher than Old Farm.

You can also hit up Winston-Salem for City Beverage and Foothills without too much of a detour.

I would totally recommend hitting up Stella Brew if you are going through Winston-Salem as well as possibly checking out Small Batch Brewing as another spot.

How come no one has mentioned Flying Dog? They're located IN Frederick. They make some really tasty beers.
