(I)PAs - Overrated, or Mislabeled?

    I'm not going to say that IPAs are overrated, but I do believe that excessively dry hopping a crappy base beer is an easy way to mask faults

    Not really what I was getting at with the thread. The title may be a bit unclear. I'm wondering about BA's thoughts on beers labeled as 'Pale Ale' or 'American Pale Ale' that are arguably IPAs, not APAs, and how this potential misrepresentation could affect, or be affected by, extremely favorable reviews.
