I waited 45 minutes to get into Russian River once but I live about 10 hours away. Besides this I've never waited in line for beer but I really don't care if other people want to wait in line. I agree with others that have commented that there is plenty of good beer to avoid lines.

Just some constructive criticism, but I think the part of your post that may have come off as judgmental of other peoples' choice to wait was the one-liner about having "self restraint". The "grow up" mindset doesn't really help either, but that's a separate point I suppose.

Perhaps too much is being read into that line, but when you say you don't do [thing] because you have self restraint, the unavoidable implication is that people who do [thing] don't have self restraint. Which is a judgement on the behavior of others. Choosing to wait in line or not doesn't necessarily have anything to do with restraint.

I understand your point. What I meant was, I was right there(an hour drive from home) I could have gotten some really good beer had I chosen to wait, but instead I just decided to me it wasn't worth it. Hope this clarifies the comment.
I do stand by my "grow up" comment, but I can see how it could be taken wrong. I'm sure folks who wait in beer lines probably have seen some really childish things at beer releases, that would make a pretty interesting topic.

This has been my experience also. I have a regular store I go to. I know them all by name, they know me by name. I don't ever go in searching for a rare release, I go to get some beer. Since they know me they will let me know when they have something rare and ask if I would like some. Sometimes I say Yes, sometimes No. I have purchased SOS there too many times to count, and I have never once asked them for it. Just comes from being a good customer...

Depends on the IPA, the hops used and if I was seriously dry hopped. Hops fade and some are more sensitive than others. IMO with heavily hopped ipas with Citra the fall off can be fairly quick. Some dank piney ipas seem to hold up better imo. Cans are better than bottles, kept cold is better than room temp. There's lots of variables to make blanket statements except fresh is better. John Klimmish will differ I suppose but HT is one of those that doesn't fall off quickly,

One could argue that it requires great restraint to stand in lines.
Also, my interpretation of the OP was that it was talking down to those who wait in lines and had a tone that waiting in line is quite ridiculous.
I personally hate crowds and lines, but don't mind that people do it. That's probably because I have GREAT karma (the best really; it's unbelievable how good it is; it's just so great) and most likely have benefited at some point from somebody standing in line for beer.
