    Useless. Not searchable.

...except that embedding comments within a review makes it almost impossible for anyone to concisely sort for or summarize information specifically related to aging, which is what people were asking for.

I like the idea of a button or switch you push when you decide to review a cellared beer. Now those particular reviews can be sorted. Todd and his team can write some code that excludes those reviews from a beer's normal ratings. When reading about a beer you and I can just click and tab and just read those reviews that discussed a cellared version of the beer (like the option we now have to see just reviews or include ratings.

is there a way to change the ratings effect on a beer score once the beer becomes "no longer brewed"? it may be that once a beer becomes vintage the subsequent ratings no longer affect the beers fresh ratings. this would mean that beers like Bigfoot would have to have multiple listings for specific vintages. im not sure how cluttered you want your database...:grimacing:

I'd rather take the notes approach with tags/filtering and no ratings.

Ya even just a notes option would let you search for words like cardboard or stale and look at the time frame of those reviews to see a sort of lifespan

And alternatively you could search for adjectives that you seek out (leather, fig, whatever) and try to identify time frames when those became common.

It wouldn't be perfect but it would be an improvement and its probably a work load on the back end that is way more inline with the actual level of user engagement a feature like this would drive.

Always appreciate your openness to community suggestions @Todd :beers:

I will note that we do have a cellar reviews forum. That said, it's not easily searchable and often doesn't come with a rating. Still, for those that are thinking about cellaring a commonly-cellared beer, it's likely that there will be reviews on that thread. There are also specific threads for Bigfoot and Bourbon County.

I agree that incorporating a cellar score would be great, but I also see that it would be a lot of effort with little return. As noted above, the cellar conditions will play such a huge role. We often think about getting scores on aged beer, but this would also make people aware of when their beer was bottled. I sense, based on some reviews, that beers not meant to be cellared receive lower scores because they weren't fresh. Let's face it, a year old IPA is not going to get the same score if it were reviewed a week after being canned/bottled.

Sure, why not, it's a big beer world out there and the more knowledge available the better.

Exactly. I love the ideas here and I’m all for a greater wealth of knowledge
