OK, thanks, I'll look into that. Is there a charge for that part, or is it still part of the free package?

no, still part of the free package. On http://www.irfanview.com/ page, click on "Plugins" on the left menu, and follow links for free download. Once you run the install, then you'll be able to use the "Set File Size" function in the Save As window.

So is there currently no way to upload pics from my iPhone through the BA App?

I had trouble uploading a beer pic today. I brightened my original entry and the no file uploaded in red showed up. Editing it back to the original brightness and then submitting it got it to the approval stage. A bit of extra brightness could be construed as washed out...

How long does it usually take these guys to approve a pic? I've had one for Ka-Bar Brown Ale in "limbo" for two weeks now...

They get approved in batches rather than one by one... I have had to wait upwards of three weeks at one point depending on what else was going on with the site, I see that the current queue is around 200 so I would expect it to get approved in the next week or so.

Except in the post you are referring to (from last night), the person stated that the size of the image did not comply with the requirements (1.x Mb in size and camera phone dimensions).

Can anyone explain how to upload a picture using Flickr? I've been trying to copy all of these different types of links, but I can't figure this crap out. I just created this Flickr account, so I have no idea what I am doing, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have tried a few times from Flicker and it worked once, which was the last time I did it a few years ago. I think you need to select the pic in your Flicker account and then highlight and copy that address link onto your clipboard. Then position your cursor in the thread posting that you are creating for the pic, then click on the icon just to the right of the smiley face on the edit bar, paste the link in the dialogue box, and then click OK. If that doesn't work, search this forum because I'm certain that I've seen the How-to posted here before.

I can upload a beer or place picture. Every time I try it says no picture uploaded. I use IMGUR to get my photos into posts, but cannot crack the code for the other pictures. Any tips?

You need to upload from your hard drive. I use IrfanView (free program to download) to resize and crop the images to the right pixel sizes. I then use the website http://jpeg-optimizer.com/ to get the file size under 20 kb.

I have probably never tried any files that small. Is the 20kb the threshold? Also can you elaborate on right pixel size? It would be nice if an error message popped up instead of the very generic no file was uploaded.

on the upload picture page - look over on the right hand side, there are instructions. Beer pictures need to be 150x300 and under 20kb. Which is tiny compared to what you probably take with your phone/camera.

In Irfanview, I first use the "Resize" command, which re-scales the picture down proportionally- I set the height to 300. But since pictures are normally vertical 3x4 format, it will be too wide. So then I use the "Create custom crop" command to crop off the sides of the picture. But then usually the picture is still like 70 or 80 kb. So I then use that website to get the size down. It does a great job without losing any quality.

Place pictures are easier because their size requirement is 200x150, which directly scales down from 4x3 format. So no cropping needed.

Following the advice from someone in this forum a while back, I've been using http://www.resizeyourimage.com/ it's free, lets you pick your height and width and then has a zooming tool to quickly center and format your picture as you like. The one drawback is that rarely, the picture comes out to 19.9 to 20kb, which is NOT accepted by this site, despite the instructions, probably due to arcane storage differences between my computer and the site system (files can take up slightly different amounts of space on different systems). In that case, I find that taking a smaller original picture (backing off the bottle, not so close up) will produce a photo that will size fine. Using the Resize site, most come out naturally to 16-18.5 mb after sizing. Try both the sites and pick the one that you like to use.

Hijacking this thread to ask for help posting pics in comments and threads. I signed up for photobucket, copied the URL of a pic and then used the "Image" link above and pasted the URL there. Doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

    [IMG][/IMG]

Just tried it here. Didn't work.

on the Photobucket site, did you click the "Get link codes" button to get the correct URL?

Or actually, to the right of the picture, you can just click on "Direct" and it automatically copies it
