Identifying Hops by Appearance

    My point was that the harvest is late summer for the most part. Hops grow up until the solstice, yes spring, then they set the burrs that turn into cones. The cones develope over the summer.

    The was a guy on a homebrew forum that would harvest on the 4th of July, but he lived in GA.

    I think we're agreeing with each other, even if someone was harvesting as early as July, June has barely gotten started; so, like a few people in the thread, I'm theorizing that the OP is actually harvesting the crop of a close relative of hops, as it is not yet the time of year to look at hop cones let alone harvest them already.

    As the OP is in Canada I doubt that hops are very far along. As for the alternative crop, I have no knowledge on its growth or harvest.

    Well yeah, you gotta grow hops in the back yard since the basement is full of weed....

    Back on track, I brewed with found hops and am pretty sure I figured out what they were from that. I brewed a smash pale with them and it tasted like a SNPA clone, so my guess is cascade. You should do the same!
