I don't consider myself a fan of IPAs in general but I also liked enjoy by and like a handful of other ones. And I've tasted hundreds, including "trophies" and have not given a shit. 9.4% ABV IIPA is almost barley wine

I was messing around some with that comment. To your point, I find 8-8.5% ABV the sweet spot with DIPAs.

    Good luck on your quest.

I had Enjoy By 11.12.13 last week for the first time (on draft at Stone no less). It was the best DIPA I've had in awhile. That being said, I've had Dirtwolf before and after. It isn't quite as good IMO, but a damn fine replacement.

Bells is now in NY, so wait for the deliciousness that is Hopslam. Best DIPA I've ever had.

As a New Yorker, I don't have access to many of the highly rated IPAs

didn't get the latest Drink By in Arizona, have to make do with the Green Flash Green Bullet. if there are no good IPAs in NYC, then someone will make millions filling that obvious void. however I suspect you just need to know where to look and what to look for. it's NYC for god's sake, you can get anything. all that said, it is true that the west coast beers > east coast beers.

Certainly not a DIPA, but Southern Tier Harvest Ale should be readily available in New York, I would imagine. The caveat being you need to try an find it on tap. The bottle is to the better side of good, but on tap it was excellent this year. Great hop flavor on the front, but well balanced throughout.

As previously mentioned, Founder's Harvest is always exceptional if you manage to get your hands on some.

Two Hearted is by far the best readily available IPA. But Hopslam is equally as good.

I ordered cans of Jai Alai from the menu at Uncle Barry's in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Haven't seen any in stores just yet.

Hopslam is right behind Sculpin as the most over rated and over hyped beer
