If you've had Thirsty Dog Wulver please rate it. It's a fantastic beer that deserves to be in the top 250. Agree?
That's fair. Just want people who have had the rare opportunity to try it to get there opinion out there. Everyone I have had this beer with think it's as good as wee heavy gets.
I'm drinking one now (c/o Beesy). It's got that goooood flavor. OP: seriously, though, it's already the #1 most popular Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy. What more do you want?
It's quite good but for twice the price of backwood's bastard...the great lakes market already has an amazing bourbon barrel scotch ale/wee heavy and I just don't feel that Wulver was worthy of its price tag.
I was actually gonna crack one open earlier tonight, but didn't.. I have high hopes for it though and will probably crack it open on Wednesday.. I have had it on-tap in the past, great stuff, but I'm thinking it could possibly be different in the bottle. I hope it's relatively the same. I only say that because BA Siberian Night bottled was different from what I recall from my past experiences having it on-tap. Just my opinion..
Haven't had it on tap yet, but it's been popping up a few places in Columbus. The Ohio Tap Room ran out before I had to chance to get a growler fill. The bottles I've had have been fantastic....I'm also curious to see where it ends up on the big board once enough reviews have been registered.
Rare opportunity to have it? They still have 2 cases left at the store up the street, and I'm sure there are many more out there. Hype hype hype isn't necessary, it's a really good beer. The campaign to get people to inflate the value is silly. Also, it'll likely be bottled many times more going forward, same with the BA Siberian Night.
well i can say ive had it and its very good. backwoods is better imo but id have to do a side by side to be sure.
I did a side-by-side tasting with Backwoods Bastard and Wulver, and Wulver was better. Of course, the BB had been cellared for about 7 or 8 months (bottle had a November 2012 date if memory serves). I wish I could have tried them side-by-side with the same amount of age on them. In any case, Wulver is spectacular. Hats of to Thirsty Dog for this gem.
I was able to A/B this with BB at a tasting recently. I still give the slight edge to BB, but it was close. And at this point, Wulver is way easier to get than BB. Granted, that's probably largely to do with sticker shock, but still.
Saw it yesterday for $24 per 4-pack. Can't justify that, but I'd gladly pay $6 or $7 for one bottle (just to try). Unfortunately, they were not selling this in singles. Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this. I was going to start a thread to see if Wulver was worth it, but remembered to search the older threads first and found this one.
I'm saving the last one I have to do a side by side (possibly blind to remove my Founders bias) with Backwoods when it's released this year. Wulver's a fantastic beer, and I'm curious to see how it stacks up with one of my all time favorites. I'd love to get more, but haven't really seen it for a while (to be fair, I haven't looked that hard either).
I did this with last years batch of Backwoods and it won imo. Defiantly both great beers though, look forward to your thoughts when its fresh, though i have a feeling which will get the nod.
