Ignore user, but still view their threads

Fun? Maybe, but I reckon it would be detrimental to the site.

 

What if you follow AND ignore the same user?

Perhaps, you could ignore the member the old fashioned way, by just skipping their posts?

No software change required.

Maybe ignore should cause all of the text in their posts to be "blahblahblahblah", but not skip any threads. You'd see that they posted, but wouldn't see the content.

 

Wouldn't it be awesome if the people you ignore actually become invisible to you?!?! Maybe not as awesome as this thread, but still pretty cool. I wonder if the next season of Black Mirror will come out.

 

Yeah, but then we would know that they had posted. If we click "ignore", it's like they don't even exist. Much better, IMHO.

 

Right, but like those episodes, as a 'solution' this sure comes off as overkill. I can only see myself doing it in extreme circumstances, which really don't seem to happen here anyway due to the good work of the mods.

Then again, I'm pretty sure that I actually like the posters you folks are talking about .

 

I think it's possible you like one of them, but the second one, I am pretty sure their own family doesn't like them.......

 

I've ignored a couple of people, but mostly to protect myself from getting drawn into OT / political / etc. responses. (I do have that tendency, which should really be no surprise to many here).

But, I also ignored a member yesterday who was merely annoyingly vapid in his threads and responses.

 

That's because you behave like an adult.

Exactly. If you find it impossible to simply skip over and not respond to posts by a user you don't like, then you have issues that any ignore feature isn't very likely to solve.

 

The funniest bit is that you children can't see what I might or might not be posting about you.

This thread is one of the funniest ever, btw. If FOMO was a thread, this would be it. "I REALLY hate EvenMoreJesus and have ignored him, but what if he starts an interesting thread that I want to participate in and can't see it?" That's the very definition of conflicted, right there.
