I don't believe I've ever skipped a beer merely because of the establishment in which it was being sold, but I've definitely skipped many a beer for its widespread, consistent availability. Very stupid.

I love my easily available & high quality beers, those are the ones that I regularly drink and they beat most hard to get beers. Lots of beer geeks indeed overlook them but that is their loss really. I love Orval, Abbaye des Rocs Brune, Rochefort, Cantillon etc. Too many people spend many times over the cost of these beers in order to obtain multiple bottle of harder to get stuff. I just get tick everything else because I love ticking but when it comes to drinking, I just drink fresh Orval & it beats any IIPA out there in my opinion & yes 4 week old Orval is pretty hoppy.

If I wasn’t so into ticking, I doubt that I would ever bother drinking anything else but my favourite easy to come by beers.

the first "blow my mind" beer I had after relocating Stateside was Old Rasputin. I then proceeded to ignore it for 18 months as there were "so many better beers".

I was wrong. Old Rasputin is freaking amazing. It's also amazing in a stout cake or stout brownies

I've had this happen a few times, though I can't specifically think of an example right now. I've learned to try not to overlook beers just because I see them often.

I feel that way about Stone. I overlook it a lot of time just cause its always there, but I have never been disappointed when I purchase it. Firestone walker and founders fit this profile as well.

I tend to pass on some German beers, because I decipher their freshness dates & not sure how long they have been there...

I used to run into this, but the fact that I can find Flower Power in most beer stores without having to jump through hoops or rush over on delivery day is a good thing and I'm past that phase of my life. Now it's basically which IPA is fresh and cheap. Now it's Celebration, sometimes it's Smutty, others its Torpedo, Shed, Founders, Jack's Abby, etc. Fresh hoppy beers and variety are the spices of life!
