What kind of kettle are you using?

Self fabricated. SS about 31" in diameter and 36" tall. Using a 32 jet burner with a 23" diameter heat shield and 6" flue. We seem to be losing a lot of heat in the stack. Thinking of building some kind of heat recovery exchanger to insert into the flue and then pump wort through it.

I totally missed the original post was for a 2 bbl brew. Maybe if they had a glacier nearby... :grimacing: I agree the snow method is a poor way to chill the wort, but I did it a few times last winter when I couldn't get to my outdoor faucet. It worked for me at the time and I didn't have to worry about an ice slick from my immersion chiller runoff.

    For wintertime wort chilling. Cheers!
