 That's probably a rhetorical question, but I'll answer it by saying that a campaign that predates BeerAdvocate is not what I had in mind when I said "recent." I think people aren't interpreting "one of the more irresponsible beer marketing efforts in recent memory" as soft as I intended. I get it though, I'm not being positive, but I'm really not trying to come down hard either. When they did this last year, the plan was to "have one 12 oz can of SeaQuench Ale every day" to achieve the goal of "losing ten pounds in one month." Seems like they backed away from being as concrete this year.

A challenge with the goal of limiting consumption while requiring that you drink at least one every day seems muddled. If I was going to do something like this I would limit myself to drinking only beers under 4% and at most one per day.

However, I will continue with my general goal which is to go from drinking about 20 beers per week to 10 or less. Trying to have 0-1 on Sun-Tues and 1-2 Wed-Sat.

Well they sold me when that article came out about it's quenchability and somewhat low calorie intake months back. I'm probably +8 cases of it during that time, while not even considering any of their other beers. So they got me there. It is a solid thirst quenching beer in the warmer months. I've never considered it a truly healthy beer. That's just wreckless and unhealthy thinking.

With the known salt negligible, they're still trying to be the Gatorade of beers for the month people try to get healthy. It's a 5.3% somewhat sweet brew with 140 calories. I know it won some awards and had that article that helped them. It's not a game changing cancer curing brew though.

I'll drink this as much as I normally do.

Even one beer a day seems unhealthy in the scheme of things.

For this year's JanuQuenchy, drinking beer is optional, however, if you do drink a beer make it a SeaQuench Ale.

I've opted to drink at least one SeaQuench Ale a day as part of my personal challenge.

In order to balance out my wet blanket post, I’ll add that I rang in the new year with a 2011 bottle of Dogfish Head / Sierra Nevada - Life and Limb... and it was a treat. Cheers and have fun.

I'm in for 1/3 of 1 day since DFH also made a badge for it on Untappd! I have a potentially dry-July upcoming for reasons to be divulged later so a dry January is not in my wheelhouse. Good luck to all of the participants!

I didn’t care for SeaQuench, so I’d pass on that challenge, I guess you could sub another low ABV selection, but I really don’t see the point of drinking the same beer for a month. Well if it helps someone to get healthier I’m all for it (I recently quit smoking after 40 years)

Any challenge or contest put out by any company can be spun around and construed as a marketing effort. Funny to see all the hair trigger responses pointing out the obvious.

I think a lot of the hair trigger response was to Todd (and thus this website) promoting this obvious marketing by a single brewery. It strikes some, including me, as pretty tacky for this site to push one breweries marketing ploy when they don't generally tend to do that.

Ultimately to each their own though and I hope Todd and all the rest get whatever they are looking for out of drinking a little bit of one beer all month.

Thanks! But it's not really about drinking a little bit of one beer all month for me.

What is it about for you? I understand what its about for DFH but I don't get what the appeal for any participant would be

Every year I do my best to participate in "Dry January," so it will be the same for me this year -- not the same as JanuQuenchy, but similar. Giving up beer for a month (I don't really drink any other alcohol other than a glass of wine with my wife now and again) is a re-set for me and I can feel it from the fit of my pants to the refreshed palate in February.

In the running for best thread of 2019, @beertunes?

Obviously a marketing gimmick by DFH. For anyone else, it doesn’t strike me as the best-conceived wellness program, even for heavy drinkers — but if it helps a few people drink less and exercise more, good for them.

At 4.9 ABV and 140 calories, how is SeaQuench either a "session" sour or "Low Cal"? Those stats put it pretty much the equivalent of the largest selling "full strength" US macro brands in calories and alcohol.

I wondered the same, but I guess if you're limiting yourself to one beer a day (especially if you commonly drink a few) you don't need to worry about session strength or lower calorie.

I've thought about doing something like this but with Guinness Draught instead. I think it's only 140 calories per 12oz or something like that. And I wouldn't drink it everyday, just Thu-Sun.
