The memories are flooding back  I drank Wilson's in The Oaks in Chorlton , sadly now flattened and the building occupying the site is a Simplyhealth office. I am sure I cried the day Websters took them over :grimacing:

Websters, a bitter that didn't suffer loss of flavour when kegged
because it didn't have it in the first place.

Now Stones was a fair pint on cask, how the hell did things like John Smiths prevail????

Stones was a nice pint indeed. As for John Smith's, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole! I always scratch my head in wonder at the amount of men that ask for a pint of that rubbish when there are perfectly good cask ales besides it on the bar. The mind boggles!!

probably because their experience of cask beer is that of John Smith's bitter served by a cack handed landlord with no interest in serving good beer just making money usually bar pouring the content of the drip tray back into the cask.

Though when I've ran a bar my drip trays for cask beers haven't had enough beer in to get a gnat pissed lmao.

I remember my late father telling me a story of when he asked for a pint in the Royal Oak, Chorlton. The barman went out of the lounge into the vault and came back with a pint. My dad poured it over his head and said "Why did you go into the vault and pour me a pint? I don't want some shite you have tipped into the glass from the drip tray. I want a pint out of that pump in front of me'. :sunglasses:

I remember the criticism that used to be leveled at Timothy Taylors over lack of availability outside the Keighley area. The response was typical Yorkshire 'We've been exporting our beer for years, we sell it in Lancashire'.
