I only keep cans on my boat. Nothing wrecks a day on the bay like broken glass. I swear bottles stored aboard lose carbonation.

I also look for specifically canned beer. I feel its drinks better for me. Also takes up half the space as bottles.

But it (at least) feels like the shift to “craft” cans is most evident at the local level. That environmental advantage becomes pretty insignificant if the beer is sold to the customer directly out of the brewery and primarily stays within a small radius... but try telling that customer waiting in line to buy 16oz cans of the latest local “hazy” IPA that glass bottles might be a superior choice for the environment in that scenario. I wonder what their reaction would be.

I both love and prefer cans, but sheesh. I don't exclude amazing beer because it comes in bottles instead of cans. Jesus. I buy great beer no matter what the format.

Having said that, I really love cans. I got butterflies of excitement each of the times I went to buy beer and found out that Left Hand, Smuttynose, and Peak Organic, etc. had started releasing their core beers in boxed six packs of cans instead of bottles.

Yes, there are mobile bottlers. Often, the same company will both set-ups. We use a mobile bottler at my work, and the truck has a 16 head filler. We can run off around 600 cases of 22s in about 3 hours.

Thanks, how does bottling compare to canning cost wise?

It's not so easy to beat someone into submission with a beer can, for which I'm thankful.

See my post above, the best way to reuse glass is to crush it near the end user and use it for construction fill or simply discard it . Returning glass for recycle makes no sense and wastes money.

That's not my end of the elephant. I just know that we pay per case of finished, saleable product.

I don't care for them, either, but would you really turn down a beer you loved because it came in bombers?

Any packaging format that requires you to buy an additional implement to open...is clearly a conspiracy.

One of the many reasons I prefer cans over bottles. I can't tell you how many times me or my friends would go grab beer from a convenient store, only to find out none of us had a bottle opener! :joy:

Cans rock, take up less room, pop top, zero light, no breakage. And unlike bottles breweries have a canvas to flower up their liquid gold......

Our nano-kegs do not require an additional implement. :stuck_out_tongue:

I enjoy cans and in many ways prefer them but without trying I do seem to be able get a better, smoother, easier poor from a bottle vs the glug glug of a can.

I have yet to do a can vs bottle side by side taste test of the same beer but I think I need to, sounds fun.

You would ideally do it as a blind triangle test with beers of the same age (and with beers that do not have any differences from one format to the next).
