I ordered a Duvel gift pack from a well known UK website, expecting to recieve the original glass with the gold logo, but I got the newer red 'D' glass instead. I complained and got £5 in beer vouchers back. I still wanted the original Duvel glass, so I ordered from the Duvel official webstore, only to receive a glass with chips on the logo, a rim that was uneven and a rough feel from the glass on my lips. I complained and they sent me out a new one free of charge - it arrived this morning, and is near perfect, but the rim has a slight bulge where the join is. Very annoying, and I'm unsure wether to complain once again. Anyone else had issues like this?
I had a perfect large tulip Duvel that I got about 15 years ago but the logo got marked up fairly quickly, within say two months. I still have it and use it today (about an hour ago, in fact), and it doesn't look bad, but it's not great. On the other hand, I use it, it's not a collectors item for me so I'd expect to see some wear. My guess is that breweries are now hopping around from manufacturer to manufacturer looking for the best deals, and that there's less demand for quality as well (as seems to be the case with everything lately); and that the glass manufacturers are under a little stress right now due to greater demand at the moment.
Thanks for the response. I did infact email them this morning and they requested that I send the glass back for inspection along with a free postage label. To be fair, their customer service has been brilliant so far - it's just such a big inconvenience over a glass that should have been perfect the first time around if they had quality control in place.
I feel your pain, but I've also just had some of my own which I thought I'd take the time to relay here. I don't collect glasses, but I do have some that have personal meaning, and in general I prefer English Imperial pints. Over the past 6 months (YES - 6 MONTHS!!!) my wife had a friend of hers staying in our house. She liked to use my imperial pints as water glasses for bed and broke just about every one that I had. There are only 2 left (Behaven & Young's) out of about 8. The Nicholson's that I picked up in Liverpool cannot be replaced, and every time that I used that glass it reminded me of the great time I had there.
Goodness me, I'd want to strangle her! Every time I wash my glasses and put them in the dryer rack I watch them like a hawk to make sure some family member hasn't knocked it over and denied it.
I'm pretty careful when it comes to maintaining the logos/artwork on my "special" glasses, but I really like the look of a well-used Duvel tulip.
