so anyone have a guess as to how this bad baby would age? to be honest, i bought it out of an impulse and cherries in a stout dont exactly turn me on

The regular stuff ages well. I've had it up to a year so far, it hasn't been around too terribly long to get much more on it.

Personally I wouldn't age it, or the normal IBB for that matter, but that is just me. I think the normal IBB has a lot of coffee to it so I wouldn't want that to fade. I thought Natale was very similar to IBB but with very light cherries and dark fruits to it, and less coffee overall.

IMO both are really great fresh and need no aging. If you wanted to though I would think Natale would hold up fine as it is similar to IBB but less fresh coffee in the nose.

i was actually just concerned that the cherries would overpower the beer. so i figured aging would tone them down a bit

since you said it was light though, ill probly just pop it open with some friends tomorow and see how it goes. maybe my store will have a few more and i could get another (along with very angry beast because i regret not impulse buying it right now)

    The cherries are not overpowering

Not overpowering at all. It's a great mix. The cherry adds just a touch of sourness to an already great beer.

id get more but my boss is planning to drive me out to russian river in 2 weeks to get 2-3 cases of beatification

The cherries mesh well with the other flavors, if it didn't cost so much for one bomber I'd pick-up more. For what it's worth I've had a properly aged (one year) IBB and it was fantastic, not many other flavors going on but it turned into a vanilla bomb.

thats what i was thinking. if it were like $12 instead $17, id probly get two more to experiment. but its the wrong season for me lol. too many other beers came out this last month

First and foremost, if you haven't had it fresh, drink it fresh! IBB and variants should be around for a long time (we hope!) for annual beers you want to know "do I like this fresh or so I like it with age?". If you don't try it fresh you can't answer.

Secondly, cherries are very mild, I suspect aging this will give you a stale-coffee version of IBB. If you MUST age an IBB go with the Brett version (Femme Fatale).

I like this beer too much and it doesn't last long once I bring a bottle home...

I had a few of the cherry variant fresh and I had one yesterday with about 6 months on it I bought it to cellar but thought the cherries would fade. I didn't notice any of that though. I have the BBA version still sitting around plan on opening in the next year.
