Yeah, this is how I've always read it as well. I just figured it's the same thing as a stout vs imperial stout or RIS.

Wait no longer, my friend. Your dreams are reality.

That has been my assumption as well. But who knows?

    *Gasp*

I'm actually really excited for this. Is that weird? When does this come out? Or... or is it a joke?

Why would that be weird? Noble Pils is pretty dern good. I would definitely buy this.

Yeah, style has definitely become subject to marketing-speak. I tried a beer at a local brewery last week that they referred to as a triple IPA. It's 9.5% ABV and 101 IBU. It's definitely a great beer though.

And I never got to try their old Imperial Hallertau, but that's exactly what this sounds like, and Imperial Hallertau was supposedly very good. I just wanna know when I can get my hands on summa 'dis!

Samuel Adams Hallertau Imperial Pilsner was indeed a very, very tasty beer. It was 8.1% ABV.

This ‘new’ beer does indeed sound to be similar (but a bit higher in alcohol content):

“Samuel Adams continues their cartoonish style labels today with the approval of Double Pilsner. This beer will use 12lbs of Hallertau Mittelfrueh Noble hops per barrel, it will be packaged in 12oz bottles and come in at 8.6% ABV. Stay tuned for release details.”

    Cheers!

I've seen a couple "imperial special bitters" or imperial ESBs (FW DDBA, for example), which is basically an imperial British pale. I haven't had DDBA yet, but I have had a brewpub version and it was delicious.

Southern tier called 2XONE an imperial pale ale and while that beer was the shizzle, i dont believe you could classify it as an india pale or double india or whatever the hell the flavor of the week is for ipa's

But I thought a imperial Stout was labeled as having a high abv like a double IPA. I'm so confused now that the question has risen to the top like the head of hi res . Its time to pour one. Cheers everyone.

When I was in Koeln this past December, Max Paeffgen Brauhaus had their Holiday Bockbier available, which, as they're known for their koelsch, I deemed an Imperial Koelsch. It's what it tasted like to me, at least. It was killer.
