Gonzo was right below the Duclaw in the beer aisle. I might try them both and put up some ratings. Thanks for all the feedback!

Ahhh, Gonzo, yes. I had forgotten about that one. Very good, much better than the Duclaw one (whose name I have forgotten).

Yep, the Alaskan aged really well. Sad to read that it has ceased to exist.

What's the difference between an Imperial Porter and a Stout??

I purchased 14 cans of Barley John's Dark Knight BA Imperial Porter 3 months ago maybe. The first can was off and didn't taste what I expected so I went back to the store and returned 11 cans. I had a can several weeks ago and it was by far the best imperial porter I had. I regret returning the other cans. Hopefully my palate was off that day and there isn't wide variations between cans.

Imperial porter and imperial stout? There is no difference. Brewers choose the name they prefer. Imperial stout seems more popular. There's brown stouts and black porters. Well, unless you're talking about an imperial baltic porter -- then that might be different. Ballast Point Victory at Sea (imperial porter) tastes and looks like a RIS to me. I'm sure someone else can be more helpful, but there is no longer a clear cut definition.

Less than zero? (Seeing as there is no difference between porter and stout  ).

I realize that a stout is a stout porter, but aren't stouts more robust tasting, whereas porters often have milder taste? I've had stouts that could pass as a porter and vice versa. Fairly subjective difference, but they are recognized my most as different styles.

You can try Rushing Duck Imperial Beanhead or Carton' Shipwreck, but both are seasonal brewery only. So is peekskill's Moscow on Hudson, which is a Baltic porter technically. If you expand it to Baltic porters I've seen Jack's Abby Framinghammer readily available around me.

It all depends on what the Brewer wants to call it. Recognized as 2 styles but really. Perhaps in the past of the UK's brewing history? A difference in taxing?

Smuttynose baltic Porter for the win. It's also available as a 12oz now. Still have 2-3 sitting in the basement.

Renaissance Baltic cherry Porter is also very good if you can find it. I am told it does not ship to the USA. I had a bottle bought stateside that I am guessing was not intended to be here. I see other beers by them but not this one. I had mine almost three years ago.

Anyone seen this on the east coast in the last year?

    Enjoy
