So I was at Captain Lawrence brewery for a pilot tasting yesterday afternoon and I really regret not getting a growler of RIPA's Revenger, the first Imperial Red Rye IPA I've ever tasted (usually not the biggest fan of IPAs but this one was fantastic)... since it's a pilot, it's not going to be on tap that next time I get a chance to head over there most likely so I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a good Imperial Red Rye IPA...

Dunno. All i can think of is what a wierd name for a style. Not imperial but have you tried fixed gear by lakefront?

Founders Red's Rye is the one most will be familiar with, but I wouldn't call it imperial. Southern Tier 2X Rye is a bit higher in ABV and you should be able to find it in NJ.

Sierra Nevada Ruthless Rye. Again, not imperial at 6.6% ABV, but very good.

EDIT: Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye. 8% ABV puts it in imperial territory.

Wait. How are we defining "Imperial Red Rye IPA"?

I mean, seriously, that name has like three different styles in it (American Amber/Red, Rye Beer, IPA) and that's before we even get into the "imperial" part of it.

Also, shame on OP for getting me excited about the idea that Founders was releasing an imperial version of their Red's Rye PA.

Although not am Imperial, Founders Red's Rye IPA is the best Rye Beer/IPA out there. Great Lakes Rye of the Tiger or Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye are great too.

Hop Rod then Red's Rye. Otter Creek's Kind Ryed is pretty popular though I've not had it...

I second all previous mentions (SN, BR, Founders, GL, ST et al.), and also add Blue Point's Rastafa Rye. It's got mixed reviews, but I had it fresh on tap and I really liked it

This shows why "Styles" have become more of a shortcut descriptor than a set of rules. The "style" Imperial red rye IPA does not exist, but we all seem to agree what the OP means. It could just as easily been described as a Hoppy double rye. I wish the IPA fits all category moniker would just go and die.

Schmaltz Brewery's Bittersweet Lenny's!!! Awesome beer IMO. 10% abv and a really nice spiciness from the rye. My favorite rye imperial thus far. Regularly available at all my local shops.

Founder's just put out a double version of their reds rye called Rouge Leader Imperial Rye IPA about a month back. It was outstanding.

My favorite rye beer is Terrapin Rye PA. Not imperial... or red... or ipa. But its got rye in it, and its damn good.

Sixpoint Global Warmer is bound to be kickin around at some liquor stores still. It's a winter seasonal and I thought it was a good representation. Also, Oskar Blues Deviant Dales I believe is an imperial Red ale. Or was it G'Knight? One of those.

Jagged Mountain Brewery in Denver has an imperial red rye IPA called Redpoint Belgo-American Red Rye Double IPA that I really like. They are not yet distributing cans or bottles, but it is generally always available on tap at the brewery.

Imperial Red Rye IPA is that like an Imperial Roggenbier Hopped like and IPA that just happens to be on the Red side of the spectrum? Or is it a DIPA with Rye that happens to be on the red side of the scale?
I guess if you can get your hands on some Green Flash Imperial Red Rye you might be close.

Yea cuz that's sitting all over the place in New Jersey... I'm sure the OP wouldn't mind having access to the suggestions given to him.
