In PA, I couldn’t carry all the beer I bought, so the clerk was “required” to walk the rest out with me. I think they might have some whacky beer rules.

PA has some oddball beer laws. I believe it still has a limit of 192 ounces per visit in grocery stores and bottle shops, but not at the distributors. When the lady at Giant Eagle explained this law to me I just stared blankly for ten or fifteen seconds. I didn’t want to unload on a clerk, but I was having trouble formulating a reply that wasn’t expletive filled. I ended up saying, “OK.”

Worked all day outside pulling weeds and clearing some patches of land, nothing huge but ivy and crazy shit. It’s hot out. I harvested more cukes to make pickles. I have three quarts of dill chillin and going to make some spicy Thai and some mustard seed style.

Last of these for now till I can find more. I grabbed a bunch at well under $4 a bottle. Just a great beer and the bottle is quite heavy too.

Watching the all star game. First time in a bunch of years I’m not working when it’s on.

    Enjoy

What are your thoughts about Eli Fish in general? I keep missing them and then forgetting when time allows. Maybe it’s worth a special trip. Thanks.

Im back with an imperial stout tonight. Spent some time at the beach this afternoon evening and had some lighter beer, now its time for something with some umph!
this is Oliver Brewing out of Baltimore Maryland and their Speed of Darkness Bourbon barrel aged with coffee and vanilla imperial stout. 10.5% ABV. thought Id share this with all of y'all!

    onto my review:
Picked up this can at a shop in Pennsylvania. Date stamp is Nov 12/2021. Been in my cellar for the past couple weeks.
Im pouring at cellar temp into my snifter.
the beer pours a black coffee hue with no light passing through my glass. A fluffy beige to khaki colored head foams up 2cm and fades to a sturdy edge layer and some wispy surface covering.
The aroma is some roasted malt, dark chocolate, a little bourbon. this nose also allows some coffee notes and comes back to roasted notes again. No real hop profile and no fusol notes or anything else to give away the ABV.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and only a little tingly carbonation, almost cask like in spaciousness. There is a bit of residue on my lips after each sip.
Flavor is very briefly sweet chocolate and then moves to roasted malts, coffee grounds and some dark chocolate. I do get a little bourbon and then the flavor rolls back to roasted notes. Almost charred to be fair. I never get any of the vanilla promised on the can. Also no hop notes and hidden ABV.
I enjoy this Imperial Stout and Im glad I bought the can on a whim.
    4.21 in the BA DB

Free Will Brewing (Perkasie, PA) - In the Current Fashion. Another great beer from their stout barrel aging program that they've broken out separate from the annual Ralphius release. Imperial Stout aged in Apple Brandy Barrels with Vanilla, Cinnamon, Graham Cracker, and Sea Salt. I wasn't sure how well the brandy barrel would work, but it does. The other components are mild. Drinks extremely smooth for a 14% abv beer. 500 ml bottle.

I like the bridge. It has a modern twist on the old design. Besides it is better than the song it inspired. Yikes! I wish I had never found THIS.

No, but I know the bridge, from film and the controversy over how poorly it was maintained. I have also worked with both the design team HNTB and the for the contractor Skanska. So it’s the kinda thing that hits my radar.

General concensus in the hood ( my hood here) is that this was nothing more than a poorly thought out vanity project with a budget that went to waste.
Yes, it provided jobs( some of my homies got to work on it ) and now it's all gone to shit cuz its being shut down every night and the park hasn't even been built which requires an even higher budget(A park promised to the people time and time again)

All for what? 4+ years for A useless bridge that isn't even accessible when the sun goes down cuz of poor foresight.
    $588 million?
Some shit that will probably hit 600 million plus cuz of 'adjustments ' that weren't predicted.
    They can eat my shit.

What makes anyone think this bridge will be better maintained when its 3x more shit to deal with? Only time will tell but unless you live here and have been there in the past week uou have zero clue the shitstorm this will be.

    Wasted money

Completely agree, but I think a bit of age has helped tame the cherry flavor. Had this shortly after release and the cherry flavor was pretty intense. Still very good, but the cherry flavor was very noticeable (you wouldn't call it subtle) upon release.

Just my two cents, but I think you were smart to hold onto it for a bit.

Yesterday I spotted 12-ounce bottles of AleSmith 2022 Barrel-Aged Speedway Stout in a good beer shop near me in a suburb of Portland, OR.

As a former SoCal resident and long-time fan of AleSmith and BA Speedway, I happily snapped up a bottle for what seemed to be an agreeable price. Tonight I opened the bottle, expecting a tasty nightcap.

I'm not sure what was in that bottle, but it sure as hell wasn't the glorious BA Speedway Stout I remember. Too sweet, no coffee, no depth. A hot, harsh mess.

Regular Speedway is still delicious. What's going on? Has it been too long since I've had the BA version? Have my tastes changed that much? Has AleSmith lost the plot? I'm hoping somebody will tell me this was an anomaly...

Good to know. Cost overruns and delays are always annoying (and often avoidable. I’m to ignorant of the details to comment more.) The closures, seem to be due to the people doing questionable things (i’m Curious just what, and should look for better reporting.) And hopefully the park will come, but you are right, time will tell. Good luck.

Drank this one last night after the kiddo went to bed. At just a little over four years old, it's rather impressive how this has held up. In my opinion it hasn't lost a single step. Pours jet black with a mocha head and light carb. Nose is full of chocolate, roasted malt and bourbon. Big, rich Herseys chocolate covered corner piece brownies soaked in bourbon. Slowly drank over the course of about 3 hours and it just got better and better. Cheers everyone!

Did AleSmith bottle this themselves or was it maybe contract brewed, like BA Narwhal? (IIRC) I see it in cans but have never seen the BA version in bottles. Of course, I live in Michigan, so maybe they keep the bottles local and ship the cans out.
