It’s almost impossible for me to get it, so it’s hard for me to really give it grief. It might have been incredible in 2016-2018. I heard those years were really good

[IMG] “Luscious “ British Style Imperial Stout. What an incredible stout! So rich and complex! Deep chocolate flavor with a fantastic viscous mouthfeel! A winner from the home of stellar IPAS, The Alchemist!

Following up on the Other Half BA Green City These Are Our Concessions:
Poured another little pour of it and left it in the fridge all night.
Drank it now...the alcohol heat subsided, loads of caramel came out, nice barrel notes still present, vanilla, thick as hell. Glad my best friend got this for me

    Chee4s to lifelong friends.

Had a couple of enjoyable stouts today. The first was the Dark Apparition base RIS from Jackie O's. Was spot on with the RIS style! Notes of dark chocolate and coffee from the heavy roast baseline. Deliciously balanced. Look forward to the BA versions i bought at the same time!
Round 2 was Funky Buddha's Void Shaker that i acquired from the brewpub when visiting in late December last year. Held up well as the coffee and barrel balanced the malt sweetness very well. If you are looking for a "balanced" BA stout this one will fill the bill!
    Cheers!

Utopias Barrel Aged World Wide Stout

Sitting out back, on a warm September afternoon, enjoying this with a performance of Paul Hindermith’s Mathis der Maler and a cigar (Romeo Y Juliet’s Capulet). The still air allowed the smoke to casually drift and dance with the NY Philharmonic. Just an exquisitely relaxing experience. The booziness was present yet controlled by a year of age. By no means sweet, the Barleywine barrels added a pleasant mellowness to the outstanding Stout, without detracting from the roasted qualities. My previous bottle was also outside, in the crisp air after Thanksgiving dinner with my folks on the hills overlooking the Shenandoah.

Admittedly, the cigar, while a pleasant addition, did diminish the beer. Having had that concern, I enjoyed the first third before adding the cigar. Still, experiences like this elevate joy in peaceful moments. Gracie, the dog, however, tolerated my indulgence before letting me know when it was time to pay her some direct attention.

I keep wondering what I was missing with that variant, or if my palate was off when I drank it. I found it incredibly one-dimensional, whereas lots of BAs I respect really loved it. Shrug.

I’ll be curious as to this new version. Last one the nose was definitely more chocolate forward than the taste. If chocolate’s not your jam, then steer clear. They make other fine stouts
