I've gotten lax on this at times, but IMO, the biggest single thing you can do to insure your shipments is bag EVERYTHING. I don't care if it's a bottle, can or growler. If it is a bottle make sure you put some paper between the bottle and bag so your bag doesn't get punctured.

Here is a Growlette I received today. Shipment made it and the box was totally dry. Thanks to excellent packaging, the box arrived with no issues.

Reminds of my college days, amirite? Somtimes I even double bag it!

Only growlers I've had leak are those damn Societe growlers. Too bad, because they are pretty cool growlers.

Point taken. I usually don't bag the cans because I assume that they'll be fine but you're right, best to bag everything. While we're on the subject, when I don't have ziplocks, I just take a plastic grocery bag, make sure there are absolutely no holes in it and tie it a couple times with a single beer inside. Does anyone think this is acceptable or that the protection is minimal?

I have gotten lax on this as of late so the thread is a good kick in the butt to get back to wrapping everything. @Immortale25 - I think the grocery bag is fine if you run out of ziplocks.

I'm not convinced that a grocery bag is a good option. I guess it's easy enough to pour some water in one, tie it up and shake it...

that's a nice save, but fwiw I've probably packed 500 beers and have never bagged one (and all 500+ have arrived safely)

I get lax on this sometimes as well, hasn't cost me yet , but it's obviously a good Idea to trash can the entire box then Baggie each can.

I don't bag most stuff, the only box I ever had a problem with (and it was sent back to me, not discarded) was through FedEx and the growler was bagged and the whole thing was double boxed. Chalked it up to the 1% (which it probably literally was as I would guess I have sent 100 boxes).

Issues with the swing top SS grolwers? Was the mechanism taped? I guess if the metal tension side gets bent or if the seal is old/broken, there is nothign to keep the beer in the growler. Going to have to think twice about using these so often.

I plastic wrap and bag every item, and when i want to be extra safe i plastic wrap the bag around the beer too

Not sure if you were referring to my post, but yes it was a swing top. I don't think it was any issue with the top. They must have cracked it real good to break the bottle and have it break through the zip lock is my guess...Maybe impaled with a forklift or something...?

    So as a follow up.

The swing top was throughly taped. I chilled it and drank it that night. There was a TON of carbonation, and the beer was great. I'm guessing it really got shook and the pressure just built up too much and some leaked out.
