I started rating beers on Beer Advocate so I could remind myself of what I had tasted and what styles of beer I like. I now have a solid base with over 200 + beers rated. My top ten is as follows:

    1) heady topper - the alchemist
    2) sculpin iPa- ballast point
    3) Everett porter- hill farmstead
    4) 90 minute iPa- dogfish head
    5) lunch - maine beer company
    6) Celebrator - ayinger
    7) imperial Russian stout - stone
    8) trappistes rochefort 10
    9) Framinghammer cocoanut Baltic porter
    10) wiehenstepahaner vitus

I live in the Boston area and travel the northeast within the triangle that is Baltimore to Buffalo to Boston. Business travels in 2015 will take me to Atlanta, Kansas City, Chicago and Las Vegas. Will most likely make a beer / ski pilgrimage to Waterbury , Vt for a visit to the Alchemist, Lawsons Finest, Fiddlehead, hill farmstead & prohibition pig Based upon my geography and the beer styles listed above, I pose a couple of questions:

    1) what beers should I try that would have a chance to crack my top 10?
    2) any pubs/ beer halls/ restaurants that I should visit in my travels?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

    Ich bin Der WunderLlama

    Prosit!

I find your top ten interesting. At first I was thinking its gonna be all IPAs then after the top 5... Dramatic turn the other way...

Try in VT: Fiddlehead Mastermind and Hodad Coconut Porter, Lawsons Double Sunshine (which won't be available again for a few months), Otter Creek Kind Ryed, and just because its awesome, Lost Nation Gose. It will make you forget about all the jib jab about Westbrook Gose.

From the looks of your top few I would say try to get your hands on either of the two Alchemist truck sale beers. For stouts I like Yeti.

Focus on what styles you seemay to enjoy often. Then pick a few and go from there.

From looking at some of your other ratings I see you seem to like boulevard pretty well. I'd say try some special releases when you hit kc

It's not on draft currently but HF double citra killed heady when I had both this past summer. In Waterbury also go to the reservoir, the blackback pub, and on your way back from HF, go to parker pie co. I've bought cantillon in both parker pie and the reservoir, and all 3 have had excellent draft options when I've visited. Enjoy!!

I just picked up one of these a couple weeks ago. As it is one of your favorites, do you have any recommendations for a length of time to cellar before drinking?

@WunderLlama When you are in Chicago check out 3 Floyds Zombie Dust and Arctic Panzer Wolf (really anything 3 Floyds, but especially those two), Revolution's Unsessionable and any Pipeworks IPA that you see. In KC I can highly recommend Boulevard's Tank 7. No idea about Atlanta or Vegas.

Great list in my opinion. The one I don't love is Stone's RIS. It's a great beer, but to me there are better stouts. Especially some of the barrel aged ones. I also like the Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier better than the Vitus, but that's splitting hairs.

Regular Old Rasputin is one of the tastiest beers around. But if you can get a hold of one of the anniversary editions -- just sublime. Old Rasputin XII (long out of circulation, sad to say) is the best beer I've ever had.

Again, I'm sorry. Just my opinion. I also like other beers from outside of Vermont. I promise.

You definitely need to get some Lawson's if you haven't had anything from them. Gandhi Bot. I haven't had anything from Tree House yet but it gets talked up a lot on here.
