Flying into Charlotte for a wedding this weekend. I'm able to escape the wedding hoopla for a few hours on Saturday while the girls get all sexified. Looking for a good spot for beer and, to a lesser extent, food on Saturday afternoon.

    Taco Mac?
    Mellow Mushroom?

    suggestions welcome.

Duckworths Park Rd and hit up Brawleys across the street for some goodies to take home!

What part of town will you be in?

As said Duckworths...they have 2 locations...here's their beer list: http://www.duckworthsgrillandbar.com/beers.php

Old Mecklenburg and NoDa Breweries are both outstanding....Vintner Wine Market has 16, and we have a few Taco Mac's, Flying Saucer, and a few other places depending where you are staying.

Depending on what part of town, I would do the Noda, Birdsong, and Heist brewery road. Start at Birdsong, then to Noda, then eat at Heist. Birdsond and Noda are next door to each other (as in like 20 yards apart). Heist is half mile up the road. Still thirsty? Drive another half mile up the road to Revolution Pizza and next door to Salud bottle shop (and tap room) for yet more draft selections. All 5 of these places are within a mile of each other.

    quick update . . .

Thanks for all the suggestions! Ended up staying in Ballantyne for the wedding and never got into Charlotte proper. And it turns out i didn't really *need* to. Hotel was 2 miles from Duckworth's and I bellied up to the bar on Saturday afternoon to sample some of the 80 beers on tap while watching some college football.

    - Bell’s Two Hearted: a warm up beer while I combed the menu for the next selection.
    - Oscar Blues Ten Fidy: never had it on tap before and it was delicious.
    - Founders Breakfast Stout: they only had it in bottles (wasn't complaining), but enjoyed my first bottle of the year. Every bit as tasty as I remember

When I asked the bartender if I had missed anything, she picked out Flying Dog Kujo Imperial Coffee Stout. A wonderful surprise. I have had a few FD brews and thought them decent (except the Gozo Porter, which is delish). I thought the Kujo was spectacular. The ABV from the previous drinks had definitely caught up with me by then, but this struck me as being a fine beverage.
All in all, a good afternoon of drinking. The bartender was nice and fairly knowledgeable – and always fast with my beer. Towards the end I met a guy and his girlfriend who seemed like BA-types. Both very into beer and eager to discuss. Sadly, I had to get ready for a wedding shortly after our discussion began and had to cut the conversation short.

Cool, you hit a good spot. The Earth Fare store right down the street has some good beers if you have time. Hope you got to try some of the NC stuff...Triple C, Olde Meck, NoDa to name a few.

    OP,
This is what I like. A BA posts about places to go in Charlotte, gets a ton of great suggestions and then posts where he actually went, what he drank, describes the experience. Thanks for the follow-up, we're glad you enjoyed your visit.
