Torrance/Carson area, to be specific. I've got a couple of free nights to do some beer hunting and would love to hear from the West Coast BAs on suggestions. I'm looking for all the greats I can't get in Texas: RR, Alpine, Allagash, Cascade, Drake's, FiftyFity, Firestone Walker, Hair of the Dog, Kern, Logsdon, Midnight Sun, Saint Somewhere, The Bruery, Uinta, and your suggestions. I'd also enjoy a bar or two with a great draft lineup that I can get some decent food at. Cheers!
Najas Place in redondo beach is your best bet for a good beer bar closeby. Check out Adams Fine Wine and Liquor, Number One Liquor and Stearns for a great selection of bottles.
Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach & Beachwood BBQ in Seal Beach (15 minutes apart). Check out their Hop Cam online. Some of the best in the west. Naja's in Redondo Beach. A huge taplist. Torrance is in between the mentioned. In the Torrance area you'll find Strand Brewing Co. I believe they just opened up a new tasting room. Orange County you'll find the Bruery (Placentia) & Bootleggers Brewery (Fullerton). There are plenty more brewery's in the OC, but those two are the two better ones. Bottle shops in the OC, you can check out Hi Times in Costa Mesa. Liquor Warehouse and Mr Kegs in Huntington Beach. In LA you can hit up El Segundo Brewing Co in El Segundo. Right across the street is Rock n Brews brewpub. Your not to far from El Segundo. For bottle purchase's you can find Whole Foods, Total Wine & More & Bevmo in Torrance. Those are the bigger stores. I'm sure there are smaller liquor stores in Torrance that you can find some beers that you are looking for. Head south to Sun Diego. You got a lot more better choices for brewery's and brewpubs! IMO. But I would make the effort to go to Alpine Beer Co in Alpine. If you like IPA's then you should be able to get Duet, Nelson & Pure Hoppiness and a few other surprises. And of course you got Ballast Point, Alesmith, Green Flash, Iron Fist, Mission, Pizza Port, Lost Abbey and of course Stone. For brewpubs in Sun Diego check out http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/city/28. Kern River brews will be hard to find in the LA/OC and Sun Diego area. Its a hit or miss. Mostly miss. Highly recommend Beachwood BBQ(both). Both are different in the atmosphere. My fav is Seal Beach location. I would also check out Naja's. You're close to both, so check em out. And I would think about spending 1 or 2 nights in Sun Diego. Also Alpine. It's small and different. If you like ipa's then Alpine, or go to bed.
also, if you're in Torrance, check out Select Beer Store. It's on the way to Adam's and Naja's Place. Fantastic bottle selection and tap lineup. Great people to talk to. One of my favorite places. Monkish Brewing is also not far from Strand Brewing, and their tasting room is open Friday - Sunday. Belgian style ales. Small brewery run by a husband and wife. Good stuff.
A big thanks to you BAs for pointing me in the right direction this week. Once I get home I'll post photos of my haul and try to incite envy in all my Houston BA friends.
