New to trading so i'm looking some from anyone who has done in person trading before or even people you have just been around for awhile and have knowledge to share.

    Questions:
What are are pro and cons to in person trading instead of shipping? (obviously cost would be a pro and limiting your possible trading partners would be a con but i'm sure there are more)

Whats the best way to attempt to find an in person trade? Post in FT:ISO? Post in the regional area of the forum? Stalk BA's who's city is within a 50 mile radius of you?

Anything else you guys would like to add would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Post in FT:ISO forum and specify in person (IP) trade and your location.

I did this once and the only reply I received was from someone saying they would be interested if I changed my mind and wanted to ship. I see threads like that in FT:ISO but there usualy arnt any responses in the thread so its hard to tell if the OP ever get his trade done.

The responses you get will likely depend where you are located. I am in the Washington, DC area, so IP trades are easy to set up. If you are in East Bumblefuck you might have a tough time.

Best to post it in the ISO:FT forum and see what happens.

Sometimes, the IP thing getting crickets is just the fact the trade is unbalanced. I just did my first IP trade a few weeks ago, (I found mine kind of on accident posting desire for a beer in a random thread, but I don't know how typical that is) and am working on my first online trade(s). The advice above is pretty sound, from what I understand.
    Best of luck man!

Con: You make an IP trade with lurchingbeast and he sends Pasta to break your legs and steal your whales. Watch out for that guy.

Having been threatened a few times on BA, this is par for the course for me. Bring some sort of weapon.

Pro: you might meet a drinking buddy.

    Con: you might get rolled.

Well of course, you go everywhere with a pair of guns.

On topic, I've done a few and never had any problems, and I have a few more set up for my trip to Europe. I think posting in the regional forum of wherever you're going is best. I also think this only really works if you're traveling, or if someone is traveling to you (in that case you'd respond). It can work otherwise, but I think it's a bit harder (since if you live in the same area you can get the same stuff, unless you're both swapping things you traded for or someone missed a release).

And don't bring a knife. If you're actually worried about that just meet somewhere public.

If you don't have a knife just bring a sharpened toothbrush.

Above all else, show up on time.

Don't post in the regional section - you are likely to have the post pulled. Use the ISO:FT and see what happens. This was easier when the old trading site was up and you could see Wants/Gots by beer.

I would bring a friend and meet in a public place. Basically use the same rules as you'd use for Craigslist.

This. I also am in the DC area and have completed multiple in person trades with 3 different people.

Rule of thumb- If you can't bench 275 don't do IP trades.

Its been awhile so I might need to work back up to it. Maybe i'll just bring my little brother he's big enough that he could never forget how to bench 275

That should do the trick, but make sure he wears a shirt with some type of skull on it.
