I am staying at the Ritz Carlton this Thursday for Business. I want to find a good craft beer place to visit. How close is Perennial? Can anyone help me out with recommendations for where to go or where I may be able to pick up a good bottle or two? Thanks in advance for your help.

Craft Beer Cellar is very close to there for purchases - 8113 Maryland Ave, Clayton, MO 63105.

From there you could walk across the street to The Wine and Cheese Place on Forsyth. Arguably one of the best shops in the entire area. All of the staff is very knowledgeable, but ask for Paul if you need a recommendation or are looking for a particular beer. CBC is new but seems to be a popular place as well in Clayton. Enjoy your trip!

Man! Where to begin?! First, I will advise you to check out stlhops.com. Here, you will pretty much be able to navigate your way through the STL Beer Scene before you arrive. In no particular order:

    Breweries
    • Perennial
    • 4Hands
    • Civil Life
    • Schlafly
    • Urban Chestnut
    • Ferguson
    • Kirkwood Station
    Bottle Shops
    • The Wine and Cheese Place
    • The Craft Beer Cellar
    • Randalls Wine and Spirits
    • Friar Tuck's
    Bars
    • ITAP
    • 33 Wine Shop
    • Bridge
    • Bigelo's
    • Hair of the Dog
Just to get you started really. I'm Sure some of my STL bretheren could expand and possibly refute my list but like I said, its just a start. Enjoy your time here!

I was just about to post a very similar thread as I am going to be in Stl next weekend and staying downtown for a couple Cards games. As for bars is 33 wine shop everyone's favorite? I have read good things. I would like to stop at Perennial, but I fear I may be the only one from my group that would enjoy their offerings. Would 33 Wine Shop have Abraxas and/or some 2nd Shift?

As far as food for me....St Louis??? It's got to be BBQ!!!!

What is close to me or worth a cab fare?

    Thanks for the suggestions!

I wish I could bring a Pa bottle or two along for a BA er but that would be hard in a small carry on!

    Pappy's or Bogarts. Hands down.

But I implore you to go to Mission Taco on Delmar. You will not be disappointed.

Sugarfire is pretty close to Clayton and blows Pappy's away, though its not quite as good as Bogarts IMO. For beer, Three Kings and Cicero's in the loop are close to Clayton with good selections. Basso is also close by.

Closest brewery is probably Schlafly Bottleworks

Anyone know if 33 Wine Shop carries BA Abraxas and/or 2nd shift? I can't seem to find a beer list or menu for 33

33 is really more of a bar with a small but very good tap list. They do have some bottles to go, but there is no guarantee that there will be 2nd shift bottles. BA Abraxas was a brewery only release in bottles and was gone in a few days via lotteries and early sign ups. Most of the local liquor stores will have some 2nd shift bottles, but Bailey's Range downtown is probably the best bet to find a few 2nd shift beers on tap. I highly recommend anything from Civil Life you see on tap. Have a great visit!

I'm heading to the Decorah Iowa area next week, do any local bars/stores carry Mornin' Delight?

    Sorry, I couldn't resist

I am not trying to be a dick, and it really doesn't matter, as you have gotten your answers, but...This is like the 4th St. Louis thread in like the last month. A simple search of this forum would provide all the answers. People really need to start using this function. Also, in a day where something like Google Maps is in the palms of everyone's hand...Why are people still wondering what is around them? Just saying. Anyways, enjoy St. Louis!

I think it is more about what the St Louis Natives recommend vs what is there. Every city has beer bars & breweries, but just because it is there doesn't mean it's worth a damn. I think that is the point of these message boards. But I'm glad this is also a place for you to vent about proper internet use & etiquette

I kinda figured someone would respond with this. If you use the search function, it brings up older threads dealing with the same exact subject. The same recommendations are within those threads. There is a search function for multiple reasons, this is one of them.

I pretty much agree with you. When people specify some specific parameters I don't mind so much

I am also pretty active on a fishing forum and you get your ass ripped by us if you don't try the search function first. Vague stuff like "what is the best line?" Seriously? At the minimum describe what application and the rig you are using it on. And does it really need to come up every week?

    Sorry, mini rant over

In regards to asking about bottle shop suggestions, I think some people honestly think they are going to get tipped off about a magical shop where Cantillon just sits on the shelves.

And OP, this isn't directed at you. You actually did a good job setting parameters on what you were looking for

Thank you for the help! I don't take offense to the search advice but I was looking for things around where I was staying. Now if someone would have told me where the magic shop filled with barrel aged goodness I would have gladly gone there  The Wine and Cheese Shop was perfect for what I was looking for. I found some bottles not available in PA and as luck would have it they just got in a shipment of brand new stuff from 2nd Shift. A barrel aged Brett! I wonder how it will be.

    Thanks again everyone!

Which 2nd Shift brew(s) did you pick up? I had the latest version of Unicorn Killer last night and it was great! Such an awesome brewery that has somehow managed to fly under the radar of the national scene
