In the Peace Corps... missing beer

    Hi all! I am currently in the Peace Corps serving in fiji. Let me tell you how much I miss good beer. We have like 3 beers here in Fiji and they are not craft at all lol. But when your working on an island that is so hot and you are able to get to the main city where they have beer it is beyond refreshing!

    Maybe you just found a new market? Will you be there long enough to brew up some home-brew and plant the seed?

    FYI -- Looks like a possible six beers -- keep your eyes peeled!

    Thanks all!!! All the comments are very heartwarming. I come back towards end of 2016. I wish I could home brew, but I cannot in my village. The ratu ( chief of the village) put a ban on home brew. So some villages across fiji do homebrew in a very old school method but sadly I cannot. I know I cannot wait to have a stout when I come back to the good ole Merica! All have a beer for me!

    sooo...what exactly are you doing in the Corps? I think alot of commentors here think this is something akin to the United Nations. The folks that I knew in the Corps were designing drinking water systems or efficient sewage for a small village of 30 or so. Or teaching. Certainly not anything to sniff at, but also not worthy of 'hero' status on the level of laying your life down.
    I wish you good beer, but most folks that go into this know (and often search out) situations that will test them. I hope that missing beer is worst part of your experience, and that everything else is pie.

    By the way, be patient and you will meet those who know how to quietly disregard the wishes of the ratu.

    I admire you for doing this. I almost joined back in 1993, but then backed out. It's quite a commitment. Yoi should post here ocassionally, let us know about your experiences. Hell, let us know when you're coming back, maybe there'll be some beer waiting for you.:slight_smile:
