Hey there, I'm not talking about the smaller scale, limited release stuff, I'm talking about the larger small beers. I've noticed two so far: Fat Tire and Left Hand Milk Stout. I find them inconsistent in taste and quality even within the same 4 pack. Does anybody find this as well - either for these tow directly, or even in general?
Where are you buying a 4-pack of these brews and why? Milk Stout varies for me if it is a Nitro Bottle (which I dislike) vs. the regular. I've had more Fat Tire then I can remember and it always tastes the same...pretty meh.
Fat Tire is, to me, like being the tallest midget. I like low IBUs and it's the often the best option at a non-beer bar or restaurant. I've noticed the Left Hand a little more recently. It seems like more recently, they are "Better" (I guess that's all relative) - so MAYBE it's a new "vintage"? Does a brewer the size/model of Left Hand produce differences in releases, either by change or design?
Also, I agree, I do not care for the Nitro LH. In fact, I'm not a fan of Nitro taps either - it's been my experience that it "weakens" the product.
I get a fair amount of this in some Dark Horse beers. Particularly the Coffee Dopplebock and Blueberry Stout. Sometimes they're super-sweet, cloying, neigh-undrinkable messes and sometimes they are absolutely fantastic.
It happens. Good thing the world is ending next month so you don't have to deal with this BS anymore.
I have recently noticed 21st Amendment Back in Black Dark IPA as being quite inconsistent. 2 six pack of cans bought albeit at different stores within a few days of each other and at different stores. The first was from a large liquor store right on the CA/ OR border, on the CA side in the refrigerated section, the next from Fred Meyers just on the OR side. The fist 6 was great and tasted like a black IPA should. The second 6 pack had a few cans drain poured!
