    Hi,

Sort of a weird situation. A couple of years ago I bought a home brew kit from the boss of my girlfriend at the time. Looking at it now it came with pretty much everything I need 5 gallon glass carboy, 6.5 gallon plastic fermenter, 5 gallon (it think) kettle), siphon, brushes, airlock hydrometer etc. He sold it all to me for 50 bucks, but I never got into brewing and it just sat in the basement. Then, this year for Christmas someone got me a Mr. Beer kit. Now, I'm finally ready to brew but the 3.5% alcohol Vienna larger that came with Mr. Beer doesn't sound like my cup of tee. So, my plan is to go get ingredients and use the full home brew kit rather than the Mr. Beer. So my question is: Is there any way I can incorporate anything from the Mr. Beer Kit into my home brewing?

Not that I can think of since just the MB kit won't hold 5 gal, I would just get a pound of extra light dme and maybe some saaz hops, maybe a pack of US05 and brew up the MB kit along with the 5 gal batch. The experience of just brewing will go a long way to learning how to do it better down the road.

You can certainly use the malt extract from the Mr. Beer kit in the 5 gallon batch that you make.

This. How much does the can of extract hold?

Also, the mr beer keg may come in handy in the future for small test batches or experimental secondary fermentations. I've used mine a few times for these things and it's great.

Thanks, guys. I ended up just brewing the Mr. Beer kit, just to get my feet wet, and it is fermenting now. I plan on doing my first 5 gallon batch this weekend. For the 5 gallon batches I don't have the pot yet to do a full boil. In the above post I thought the pot was 5 gallons but it is 4. Until then my idea for the Mr Beer fermenter is to use it for 2.5 gallon batches and do full boil. Do certain styles benefit more than others from a full boil?

All styles benefit from a full wort boil, but especially light colored beers (less caramelization in a full boil) and hop forward beers (better extraction).

It's just a fermenter you can brew 2.5 gal batches. Or use it for a test batch. (better 2 gals of gee this beer sucks than 5.)
