Hello, this year I am planning on getting beer for the fourth of July, at least 50+ people are coming to the party and I am wandering how much beer should I purchase? Should I be looking for 80+ servings ( 12 ounces) or even more?
I have a sixth of a keg reserved and I underestimated how much I truly needed as 5 gallons of beer would not stand a chance, so I am getting more but I need to figure out if I should just get a larger keg or get a second beer for a second choice?

I would get a second beer/bigger keg of it. We have had parties with 20 people and blow thru 5 gallons like nothing.

Or just go and buy as much of this as possible

50 people at my wedding. 2 - 1/6 barrel kegs and 20 bottles of wine were consumed.

Since you're in KY talk to your local beerhouse rep and get a 1/2bbl of Gumballhead

How long will the party be, and what is the likelihood that most people will stay to the end for fireworks, etc? Expect everyone to drink beer? Children present?

I always have a whole bunch of different shit and also recommend people bring what they like. I always do when I go to someone else's BBQ.

You could always take a page out of Paddy's Pub's book and make a kick ass micro brew (It's Always Sunny)

    Choices are always good.
It's better to have too much beer than not enough. Get a few cases as backup? If you don't need it
bottles or cans are easier to keep than a 1/6--unless you have a kegerator.

In my experience, it seems like most people will gravitate to the keg..well..just because its a keg...unless you have budlight and other stuff in a cooler...then it seems like most people go for that. I'd say its better to have some extra unwasted cases around than it is an unfinished keg..

It's the 4th of July no imported beer. What type of beer do your guest drink. If they drink BMC get a 1/4 keg of a light beer. Than get a sixtel of craft for craft drinkers.

Good advice, friend of mine had to finish off a keg after a get together and it wasn't a brand he particularly liked.

I'm having about 35 adults and doing a half keg of Fat Heads sunshine daydream. Not too big (4.9) and most should enjoy it. One case of coors light for "those people" and a couple dozen bottles of stuff from the cellar for after dark. Half my crowd is coworkers and half hard core beer enthusiasts. The coworkers will have 2-4 beers and go home, the hard core crowd will stay for BAAD (barrel aged after dark)

Run out of draft and have cans and bottles on hand (good for any left over). Get a 1/2 bbl of a "good" lager, and have a big mix of bottle and can choices-folks usually really like choices, but that depends on the crowd. That's 15.5 gallons of "good" lager, so figure how "thirsty" (what % are really going to drink) your group is to determine the balance. It's amazing how often nothing gets left over.
