Seems like a relatively new beer style on the market (not even an official style yet). I myself have only tried 2 (Hopside Down IPL & In-Tents IPL) I think they're pretty interesting and I wanted to hear your thoughts.

I've had the Samuel Adams version "Double Agent IPL". Not bad at all.

I like them. And I would say IPLs have infiltrated the market since Sam Adams makes a Double Agent IPL.

Hoponius Union is awesome. If anyone is skeptical about this style, get your hands on that beer.

Hate the name and hate most examples, but the one from AC Golden that Old Chicago carried was really good.
It might just be a situation where it's a lousy style and a bad idea, but there are a few good beers anyway.
Belgian yeast IPA's and white IPA's would also fall into that grouping, IMO.

I've not had any and they might be great, I'll admit, but the name annoys me.

did you like it? I almost bought it, but IPA usually stops me. Not everyone loves hop overdose.:grimacing:

I really enjoyed Great Lakes Silver and Gold IPL. I love lagers and would love to see some more experimentation with them, even if this isn't all that new an idea.

I got a sixer of their "Hopology" series. It has 2 of their "Latitude 48 IPA", 2 of the"Whitewater IPA", and 2 of the "Double Agent IPL".

At $8.99, how can you go wrong?

The key with any good lager is a good malt backbone. if you can do that right and make a lager slightly more hop forward good for you but adding hops won't suddenly make a bad lager a good one! I'm a big fan of Green and Gold Kolsh from Widmer, 541 Lager from Hop Valley, and North Fork Lager from Payette. All are hop forward lagers/kolsh style beers than their traditional german counterparts or american bastard child BMCs.

Most IPLs taste like IPAs. Most US beer geeks love IPAs. Therefore most US beer geeks will love IPLs.
