We just buy from liquor stores, and plan ahead for Sunday. It kinda sucks, but we deal with it.

Buy what I need on Saturday and don't give it a second thought.

Most grocery stores have a limited selection of local crafts and larger craft offerings (Sam Adams, New Belgium, etc). If you are looking for craft beer in Indiana, you are looking at the liquor stores usually.

Buying beer on Saturday that you will need/want for Sunday is just second nature really.

I used to think Speedway was an anomaly and the rest of the state must be great. Now I realize that the whole places is as backwards as that little piece I experienced

Thank god F1 moved to Austin!

This right here. Beer selections at the grocery are usually pretty shitty. Whole Foods and Trader Joes occasionally have some interesting stuff, but the quality craft beers are at the liquor stores or at the breweries. As for Sunday, if some some reason you end up drinking your entire stash on Saturday, you can still go to a bar or restaurant if you need a beer. Also, tasting rooms can sell growlers to go.

The most ******ed part of that column was the assertion that liquor stores don't want to staff their stores on Sundays.

I do an awful lot of my beer shopping in Michigan and Illinois, mainly because Indiana distribution absolutely sucks except for getting fff and 18th street. So Indiana is already missing out on my sales tax. Of all the backwards ass states, Indiana's state legislature would rather roll around in its own feces than address this issue.

I think I might trade growlers for no Sunday sales. . .

While I think NO business (restaurants included) should be open Sundays, it is nice to run to the liquor store on a lazy Sunday afternoon and pick up some tasty beverage. Though growlers only at breweries sucks genitals.

I've never understood how Indiana liquor stores can claim they'd go out of business if forced to staff stores on Sundays, yet shops in virtually every other state have no trouble operating on Sundays. Are Indiana liquor stores less efficient or more poorly run than shops out of state?

Of course not... but, they have to have some arguments against reversing a law that would effectively remove their stranglehold on beer and alcohol sales. If you didn't have to go to work on Tuesday, would you all of the sudden want to?

Is there religious meaning behind this or something else I'm missing?

But to plays devil's advocate, how much money fo Indiana liquor stores lose to neighboring states every Sunday? State government, which loves to mismanage money, also loses the tax dollars. The choice is to lose a whole days worth of revenue for a prohibition era law, not anything logical.

Well, God did declare Sunday the day of rest.

Besides that, can we not have one day a week as a society where we're not fighting for bread but instead resting. Why does every day have to be a day to make money?

I like money as much as anybody, fwiw.

No idea, but I guess its less than what it would cost to keep the lights on and the store staffed on a Sunday? I highly doubt that, but anything is possible.

I never said it was logical, or that I was for or against it...

Jesus made wine from water in his first miracle. Any suggestion that alcohol is un-Christian always seems absurd to me.

Agreed. I'm not religious in the least. Not gonna get into a full blown discussion about it but it just blows me away that I live in a state in 2014 that won't allow me to purchase alcohol because of a book written thousands of years ago. But we're making baby steps. They gave us Sunday carryout and growler sales a few years ago.

    Sure, Wednesdays.

Only because I don't like to work on Wed and that's every bit as valid a reason as some really old work of fiction picking Sundays

You don't want to work on Sunday or buy beer on Sunday, don't. Leave everyone else out of it.

In society we have certain general agreements, call them whatever you like. One of these is that the week starts/ends on Sunday. Wednesday is in the middle of the week, no matter how you slice it. Makes very little sense to have a day off in the middle of what is to be our constructive period. Makes much more sense to have a day off at the end/beginning of said period.

Can't say I remember posting, "you all must share my view, OR ELSE!" But maybe I'm too drunk?
