Saw Union Jack at my local dumpy liquor store last night in Northern Indiana. That was all they had from Firestone, but, hey, it has begun.

We got Union Jack, Pivo Pils, Luponic Distortion, Nitro Merlin, and a mixed pack here in southern Indiana. Store manager said barrel aged releases will be coming in the future as well

Pivo Pils, Union Jack, Nitro Merlin, & Luponic Distortion will be available at Crown #2 on the South side starting tomorrow.

I believe a lot of the cool stuff is still on tap at Twenty Tap and The Pint Room too.

Thrilled to have fresh Pivo on the shelves. I'll enjoy this for about a month until the roots take hold.

Having a Brew Link Ivory Stout now; copped it at Pat's Liquors in Northwest Indiana awhile back.

For a 4.8% beer it's packed with flavor; it's a bit syrup-y, if anything. If you find "pastry" stouts to be offensive I'd avoid this like the plague. I'm OK with a sweeter stout and this was over the top for me.

However, they claim to be a Plainfield, IN brewery but the fine print on the can says this was brewed at "GJS Sales" in La Crosse, WI. This appears to be a super macro contract brewing spot. Not sure how legit it is calling this an Indiana beer.

Yeah I noticed that on their cans recently too. Not sure how I feel about contract brewing. Kinda takes away from the appeal of the local brewery product.

To me it depends on why you are buying local. Consider "local" produce. Are you buying it because you want it to be picked at it's peak freshness (which is most gauranteed by it being hyper local)? Do you believe it is just "fresher" if it is local? Are you trying to cut down on "food miles," i.e. the distance the item travels to get to you? Are you trying to support your local community?

I refuse to buy anything that doesn't taste good just because it's local. I also refuse to buy something that is hyper expensive (read: not worth the price) just because it's local. If beer is contract brewed, a relatively substantial portion of that money is going to the contract brewer and also unnecessary transportation costs (we know how bad/asinine distribution is). That says nothing for whether the product quality is the same.

In my opinion, once it is contract brewed, you have to really divorce your decision from whether it's local and simply consider it like any other beer that has been brought into your state/"local" area.

I buy what beer I like regardless if it's local or not but I do try on occasion to give the local guys a shot to support the local breweries and local economy. But if, in this case the beer isn't good (at least the one beer from them I've tried) and they're truly not local, that's two strikes so I doubt I'll give them a another shot.

Found it at my kroger's for $16/4 pack after I paid $7.59/single at a local shop (that is normally the cheapest, except on some specialty releases, but is usually cheapest on founders BA). Saw the Kroger's after I bought the single. A little butt hurt over that, but I suppose it works out since I did not really want a 4 pack since I still have 12+ (bottles) left from last year.

Hey all, I am heading to NW Indy tomorrow via 465 from Columbus Ohio. Any recommendations on breweries/shops to stop along the way? From searching on here, I plan to stop at Deviate, although slightly out of the way, I may swing down to Black Acre. Any others worth checking out? Thanks!

If you are heading to Black Acre, go to Jockamos pizza next door and get the goat cheese/marinara dip. You might as well stop by Central State as well since you will be in the area.

$16/4 pack at Kroger? Wow that's great pricing. Wish I found it for that price. Paid $24.99. I see people sometimes post about finding limited releases at Meijer or Kroger but whenever I check grocery stores I never find anything other than standard offerings.

They had it for 20, technically, but then you get a discount for buying 4/6 pack, which they had advertised as bringing it down to $16.

They had about 3 cases left. Not sure how much they got. I was pretty surprised. Never seen anything else limited at this Kroger.

You can continue on 70 and head downtown and hit Black Acre, Sun King, Flat 12, Two Deep, Indiana City, St. Joseph's, Metazoa, Mash Craft, etc. and probably the best liquor store downtown is the Crown Liquors. Or you can continue on 465 and hit Triton at the 56th St. exit then continue on 465 to the Meridian exit into Carmel where there's a great place to grab a gourmet burger with a great tap list at The Pint Room. The Payless Liquors on 726 Adams St. in Carmel has a great selection of craft beer. There's another Payless in Carmel but it's not as good fyi. Then back on 465 on your way towards 65 and the next exit will be Michigan St. where you can hit Deviate and there's a Crown Liquors across the street. I guess it depends on how much time you have to spare. If you have more time I'd venture downtown, if not continue on 465 and hit the places I suggested. Enjoy!

Does anyone make it out to Windmill Brewing in Dyer at all? I know all the online hype for their meme series, but, how's everything else stand up?

Thinking about a trip this weekend since it'll be windows down driving weather for the first time in about 10 months. Woo 70s

Windmill also has other good stuff besides the Memes series. Two If By Citra is excellent when they have it, and they have also done some nice milk stouts like 40 Hulking Giants and Galactose. They're just started to occasionally have some barrel-aged beers, as well.

Also in the NW Indy area, I would recommend Books and Brews as a nice, casual spot with good brews. They have a lot of locations now, including one in Zionsville. I actually liked them more when it was just the one location, because they had a lot more experimental one-off beers that I quite enjoyed. Now that they're franchising, it seems to be straining their brewing capacity, such that each location mostly has their standard rotating beers, plus some guest taps, but less of the stuff that convinced me to buy a mug club membership in the first place.

    Hey guys,

Back in South Bend today until Saturday. Just wondering about any tap takeovers or events nearby. You guys gave some great advice last time - also, any thoughts on St. Danny Boy's right by ND campus?

    Cheers

Not sure about any special tappings in South Bend. However, the few beers I've had from Danny Boy were pretty mediocre. But, that was a bit ago, so it's plausible they might've improved things. You never know.

Platform announced that they will be distributing to Indiana. I have visited them a few times in Columbus and always liked what I had, so this is fun.

    https://thefullpint.com/beer-news/platform-beer-co-expands-distribution-to-indiana/

Avoid Danny Boy's, it is just a bunch of bland stuff. However, if you want to take a trip down the road, go to Bare Hands Brewery in Granger. I can't recommend them enough, in my opinion they are cream of the Indiana crop. They just released their first Triple yesterday that I am heading to grab some cans after work today. Their IPAs are killer and their RIS, Mail Order Bride, is great as well.

As for restaurants with the best taps there is Fiddlers Hearth downtown, Tony Saccos in Granger and TapHouse on the Edge which is literally 20 seconds from campus.

Hit up City Wide liquors on Grape road, a minute from campus, for some good cans and bottles like Crooked Stave, Praire, Mikkeller, 450 north, etc etc.

Looks like Windmill is releasing some of their Memes beers this Saturday (4/21), which includes a bomber for $20! A $20 dollar IPA bomber! Yes, I know it is a “Triple Milkshake-style IPA” but that pricing seems excessive and nothing comes to my mind that expensive in that style. That would be equivalent to a $58 4-pack.
