I am looking to grow some hops this spring. I live in NE Indiana and was wondering if people had a recommendation on which hop varieties will grow best in the climate. Thanks for the help.
I would try the American hop varieties first. Cascade, Chinook, Nugget, Mount Hood, Centennial all do well for me in SE MI.
Alright, I think I'll probably go with Cascade and Centennial. Definitely want something that will for sure grow, maybe try something different next year.
All of my hop varieties grow. The ones like Goldings, Hallertau and Tettnang grow great, but don't produce much in the way of cones, which is what we are after. The hop regions in England and Germany typically have mild summers, and our hot and dry spell hurts those hops.
I'm in Minneapolis and am currently growing Golding, Tettnang and Cascade. Cascade did by far the best last year...but they were all first years plants...and all grew well. I'll be adding Nugget this spring.
I live in NW IN, and am also looking to try my hand at growing some hops! Ill probably be growing 3-4 varieties. I cant wait til its warm enough to do things like this. This winter has really been somethin else.
Little town in NE Indiana called Fremont. It's definitely been a long winter, can't wait to get to gardening and drinking the low abv beers. I'm stouted out from this super cold winter. Can't wait to plant the hoppiness that leads to happiness.
I live in Fort Wayne. I've tried unsuccessfully to grow hops, but it was my fault they didn't grow. Here's what a local guy grows - Chinook, Golding, Northern Brewer, Centennial, Casacade, Saaz
