Does this exist? Particularly interested in breweries that start bottling/canning (or stop). Would be of a great help in updating my fresh beer page vs. manually going through each brewery in the database.
I don't know if any single publication exists for this information, but you can keep pretty well up to date for Michigan breweries by going to http://www.michiganbeerguide.com/ and usually by reading the "Murmurs" section, but sometimes you'll pick up this type of info in other areas of the magazine, or brewery advertisements. Good luck. Your project sounds like an updating nightmare to stay current.
It is. I've manually gone through the entire BA database looking at reviews to see which bottle and which don't. I've done it once, would love to avoid having to do it again!
As best as I know (some breweries are in both lists): Bottles: Arbor, Arcadia, Atwater, Bell's, Big Buck (available brewery only), Big Rock Chop House (limited amount & brewery only), CJ's (brewery only); Cheboygan, Cranker's, Dark Horse, Detroit Beer Co, Dragonmead, Fletcher Street, Founders, Frankenmuth, Frog Island (I think it is contract brewed), Greenbush, Grizzly , HopCat (occasional brewery only), Jolly Pumpkin, Kissell (brewery only), Kuhnhenn (mostly brewery but some limited distro), Leelanau, Liberty Street (very limited amount), Michigan Beer Cellar (very limited amount), Motor City Brewing Works, Mount Pleasant, New Holland, North Peak (brewery only in the past, none recently), Odd Side Ales, Paw Paw, Redwood (brewery only), Right Brain (limited amount), Rochester Mills, Round Barn, Saugatuck, Schmohz, Short's, Tri-City, Walldorff (brewery only), and Wolverine State. Cans: Arcadia, Bell's (coming later this year), Brewery Vivant, Keweenaw, MillKing, and Rochester Mills. I think I have heard of a couple other breweries (besides Bell's) that are installing canning equipment, but the names escape me right now. Maybe someone else in Michigan can chime in (as well as add/subtract to any that I forgot above). I hope this helps.
Craft Cans does a pretty good job of keeping track of US canned craft beer. Brewbound and the NBWA Daily Brew (see right sidebar "Sign Up for the Daily Brew")are good (and free) industry email newsletters, with some new release info.
