With regards to reviews... if it is a widespread infection I think you review it as is - that's the most helpful thing to others. If it's a total one-off bad bottle, then no, reviewing it doesn't serve much purpose.

I've been sitting on two bottles, as I've heard this guy is a bit hot fresh and was waiting 6 months for the first one. Given the scuttlebutt here, I may crack one sooner rather than later.

I have to say though, the reviews are mostly positive and even people chiming in here seem positive about it. Sounds like it might be one barrel that caught a bug (5% or so of the release). Would be nice to hear something from GD.

I just had bottle #1785 tonight... I was definitely infected. There was a weird tart taste to it and it literally smelled like trash. Completely disappointing, I love GD and Yeti.

    That's a cold shame :slight_frown:

I thought most places blended the barrels together to get a consistent taste...is this not the case? (with regard to a single barrel being infected)

These reports have me a little bummed. I traded for a BA Yeti (bottle #3667) and have been really looking forward to opening it. C'est la vie I guess - it will either be a huge relief or a major disappointment.

This certainly adds some drama for the bottles I have. I guess I will open one quite soon out of curiosity. I would be a bit bummed because this was my favorite beer in a tasting that included CBS, Black Tuesday, 10' KtG, Parabola and 07' Abyss. Didn't review it because I figured I would open another bottle in a few months. Wasting close to $60 would definitely suck but I have been very lucky with avoiding skunked/infected beer in the past. It wouldn't really make me disappointed in GD because there may have been no signs of infection at the time of release. That first bottle (#2544) we opened would probably have reviewed in my top 10 though. Hope to report back with good results in the near future.

Where is the bottle number? Just picked this up and will most likely crack it after work tomorrow night. This has me worried...

The topic was originally posted in the "Beer News" section of the site, way back three weeks ago when I posted that comment. OP and I have already discussed the issue, and obviously the topic has been moved.

    Cheers!

why would he take down the review, which calls the beer infected, if it is in fact infected?

also, on a side note, this is sad news to me, as this is my favorite beer of all time.... seems like i might need a new avatar if i have to take all these out of my cellar and return them.

was at the Brick Store Pub tasting on Saturday in Atlanta, guy cracked a bottle and it was definitely infected. didn't catch the bottle #. Bought 8 of these in Denver during GABF. All of the ones i've opened have been delicious so hopefully it's not batch wide.....but I'm not holding my breath. Still have 2 in the cellar. We'll see......

So the only bottle #'s reported with infections so far sound like 1785, 1896, 2195. That's a pretty tight range.

Then 1574 and 2544 were reported good, so I'd be really curious if anything below 1574 or above 2544 were infected. (Or something in between reported good) Hopefully this is only a 400-500 bottle range of infection.
