Infected or nah?

    [​IMG] just looking for some more educated opinions based on limited info and one pic. I've never had an infected brew, but fear I might.

    Working on an extract hefewiezen kit my father in law gifted me this Christmas. Yeast is safbrew wb-06, picture is 24 hours after pitching the yeast direct from the packet.

    Your thoughts, folks?

    Looks like a normal krausen to me. What in particular makes you think it might be infected?

    To me this looks like a typical, healthy fermentation. The dark gunk looks like hop material and trub. I don't see anything to worry about.

    That said, did you do a good, vigorous gjærkauk while pitching the yeast? A lot of beginning brewers forget this step, and come to regret it. Without a good gjærkauk, there's no telling what might be in there.
