Has anybody run into this lately? There's no bottle date I can find on the bottle, so I don't know when it was from. It was bequeathed to me as an extra in a trade and I was attempting to have it tonight, but I noticed it had some sediment in it, so I figured maybe it's just a really crazy bottle conditioned beer. When I tasted it though it had a slight sourness to it and a heavy metallic taste. No bueno.

I have not noticed anything yet. Is it a colored label (this years) or a white label with black lettering?

It's brownish and the words "Imperial Stout" are written in a mustard color

those beers and the double crooked tree have a ton of sediment, so that doesnt really mean much. havent had this years so i cant speak for it but last years is still drinking great, which is the B/W label

I just cracked a bottle and had the exact same experience. Cracked another...from the same 4pk and it wasn't infected. Weird!

This is possibly my favorite stout & I've never had one even slightly off. We've had a case of it over the past few months, not a single poor experience, one of the most consistent beers.

Though if you'd ever seen the weirdness that passes for the Dark Horse brewery, you'd wonder if anything there has ever been clean.

Same experience on my end. Bought 4 4packs in Boston in April, and stored them appropriately. Drank 6 so far with 2 clearly infected, and the others fine. No rhyme or reason to it in terms of 4 pack corolation either.

Yea and honestly the infected one isn't undrinkable...just very tart on the back end with sour cherry notes. Although the metallic taste is a little pervasive. Kind of cool to sample them side by side and see the differences. First time I've been able to do something like that.

The label this year is more like a real label rather than the paper label they used to do and it's a black background rather than the grey and white last year. The sediment is because it's bottle conditioned and mine is drinking fantastic.

I was under the impression that the label on the left was first used for the 2011 Plead the 5th(BA or not), and the label on the right was used through 2010(nevermind the fact that the bottle in the picture is an '07)

This is true. I have a 2011 that looks like the one on the left and a 2010 that looks like the one on the right. They also changed the 4-pack holder as well.

I'm just seeing this thread now - it's pretty helpful. thanks.

for the white label brews - any way to date those (08, '09 vs '10). I have a couple 4 paks but I don't when I bought them and have no clue what vintage they are. 2 emails to the brewery have gone unanswered.

as for the newer label on the left - is that only '11? Have they brewed the '12 yet?

Sorry - I'm simply not so familiar w/ this brewery and their brewing schedule.

You guys should sweat this at all! I have drank a TON of the dark labeled Pt5th, with no off taste whatsoever. There is a lot of sediment in any craft beer if you let it sit for a few months. I use a strainer from time to time, especially on stouts. I have poured without one, to have a big clump of gooeyness plop into the glass at the very bottom. I just scooped it out with a strainer and all was well. This is a SPECTACULAR beer! Ship it to me if you're worried...
