I will be visiting the week of July 4th and I am looking for advice on which ones to hit and which ones to avoid. We will be splitting our time between Wrightsville and Carolina beaches, probably only have time to hit 2 or 3 places. Also if anyone knows which places can or bottle that would be helpful too,as I will be looking to bring some back home if there is something I like. Thanks in advance!

I recommend Wilmington Brewing Co. They have a crowler machine. I also enjoyed New Anthem Beer Project when I was there a few weeks ago.

Wilmington Brewing Company is in the can't skip category. WBC will not be flying under the radar much longer with their upcoming plan to begin frequent can releases. Wilmington Brewing is pumping out world class beers across nearly every style.

New Anthem has a great downtown location and a growing list of great beers.

    You can skip Iron Clad.

Second what has been said already. Wilmington Brewing Company and New Anthem should be your top brewery priorities. Cape Fear Wine and Beer is the default answer if you're looking for a bar downtown. If you'll be at Wrightsville Beach, check out Lighthouse Beer & Wine.

Agree with all of the above. WBC is the best and was very impressed with New Anthem when we stopped in last week.

I went two weeks ago and was quite pleased. Great food. If you're looking for Milkshake IPAs and rum barrel aged sour stouts they aren't your place, but everything they do of core styles is solid and enjoyable.

If you're going to be downtown, I also think Flytrap is worth a stop. They round out my top 3 along with WBC and New Anthem. Copper Penny is awesome and I'm there pretty much once a week but Fork n Cork is also amazing and just a block away from New Anthem. Lots of great options in the area nowadays! Cheers

As noted above, Wilmington Brewing Company is a must. Best IPAs in town. If you go to WBC, my favorite bottle shop, Hey!Beer, is right down the road- great people, great selection, well-curated. If you want the best BBQ in town, stop at Jackson's Big Oak which is almost exactly in between the two.

Flamin' Amy's: well-known, well-regarded local burrito spot, highly recommend; some craft beer offerings. Not far from the above.

I think the best seafood in town is Hironymous on Market Street, but if you're going to be at Wrightsville, the Bridge Tender and Blue Water are both well-regarded. I'd pick the Bridge Tender of the two.

Enjoy! And please come back and tell us about your visit

As far as food goes, how has no one mentioned Chops Deli? They've got several locations these days. I've moved away from Wilmington but when I make my way back to visit Chops and Flaming Amy's are always must visits for food.

For beer, I've been to Wilmington Homebrew a few times in my recent visits and they're making some great stuff for sure. Haven't been to most of the others as they've popped up more recently.

I agree that Chops is fantastic and I also eat there about once a week- just was focusing on places that carry some more local craft options (they normally just have bottles at the downtown location). But thats another great option in town.

PinPoint is my favorite place restaurant downtown and they normally have some cool beers on tap. They've done beer dinners with Blackberry farms and Haw River recently. Its a little bit more expensive (dinner ranges from $20-30/entree) but their brunch is amazing (Saturdays and Sundays) a bit cheaper and they do $2 mimosas. I know this is a beer site, but I'm not ashamed to admit I crush some of those. Also agree that Hey!Beer is an awesome bottle shop.

Another thing to note is that since Untappd has its headquarters down here we have lots of verified venues who keep their draft lists up to date, so you can check out whats available before you head out. Cheers!

I've heard great things about Sweet & Savory. Tried to eat there last time the family was in town. Parking (or lack thereof) made it impossible; ended up at Blue Water.

Just checking in since I'll be leaving Wilmington tomorrow. The suggestions here were greatly appreciated. I ate at Sweet & Savory twice and it was my favorite.

I'm going to be visiting Wilmington on Sunday night from Raleigh. I haven't spent much time here, so I'm going to try and check out some of these places.
