Ingenious' adjuncting game is on point. The issue with a lot of their stouts in my opinion is the base. If they had a more solid base to layer the adjuncts onto, they would be really in the league they are trying to punch in (e.g. Angry Chair, good Prairie ones). Their fruity stuff is awesome when it works but the consistency can come and go, which tracks for a large number of brands that are output.

As another poster said, I would probably be there more often if they were closer to my part of town. 45 min one way is tough to swing on the regular.

Ingenious are def got or miss. Hazy IPAs are not bright enough for me and are one note. Did enjoy the Hop Knight series but won’t see them again. I did enjoy BA Make Russia Great Again. Not a fan of putting whatever in a beer and seeing if it comes out. Nothing from them really stands out and I wouldn’t put them on the same level with others around the country, or Houston for that matter. Rather drink some Spindletap, Sigma, and Baa Baa (helps they are 10 mins from me).

Since I sort of damned them with faint praise, I wanted to come on here and say that Double Splat (a hazy double-IPA) from Ingenious is absolutely fantastic. It might have been the best hazy beer coming out of Houston that I've had in a while. It's a hop bomb, and the massive hoppiness balanced out the sweetness that is prevalent in the style and particularly prevalent with Ingenious beers (IMHO). Seek it out.

I just had their C800, and before that I had their “I’m on a float”. Both were okay, but finished with what I can only describe as a chalky finish. Has anyone else experienced this? I want to like their stuff, but the finish is a real turn off.

Just thought I'd chime in on the Halloween cereal inspired series this time around, which I've been enjoying as far as the Stout Chocula and Franken Berry IPA so far. Both were solid. While the stout was surprisingly not all that pastry heavy and even seemed more traditional tasting, the IPA actually hit notes that reminded me of Tired Hands' early milkshakes.

But the main reason I came back here was to praise Yummy Mummy. That can blew me away. I thought it was just going to be an absurdly overdone pastry stout, and while it did express a crazy character like those orange jelly slices, everything else seemed to have room to add to the experience as well. The marshmallow/vanilla additions were really there on the exhale, but I was most impressed by the barrel presence. I totally wasn't expecting such barrel characteristics, but the char with the marshmallow and vanilla, as well as the chocolatey malt, created a mocha like flavor that made me think of Goose Island's Midnight Orange. But I actually found this even more enjoyable.
