Snowboarding and beer, life really doesn't get much better. What should I look out for in these parts? Thanks.
Mayrhofen is a party town. Think more Europop, Jägerbombs and shots of Stroh 80 than anything else. You'll find some mass produced German beers. Erdinger, Franziskaner, Löwenbräu that kind of thing. There's a brewery close by. Zillertal I think, their stuff is well represented all over but it's all pretty mediocre. They make a dark lager that isn't bad. I picked up a bottle of Edelweiss Weissbier from the Spar supermarket in town, that's probably the best Austrian beer I found. Gerlos and the Hintertux Glacier are both worth a day trip to for snowboarding. You can get there for free on the shuttle buses and your lift pass works there too. Gerlos is great for steep but smooth and wide open reds. Mayrhofen is a little lacking in those.
Yep, but it was fun and has like 4 stories with numerous bars, singers, etc. I was 3 weeks into Germany & Austria and was hankering for something slightly different. Innsbruck is wonderful, I enjoyed everything about that town. Unfortunately, the Brauerei Kapsreiter GmbH (literally Cow Rider) brewery has closed as their beer was awesome. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4459/ I also remember lots of Steigel.
The mountains are not that bad anymore! For Innsbruck check out http://www.tribaun.com/. Awesome beer bar! And if you wanna see a brewery www.bierol.at, if you are planning to come by just send me a short mail [email protected] Cheers!
We ended up doing most of our drinking either on-piste or back at the challet. There's a good Frisso Getrankmarkt in Ramsau a few kilometres north of Mayrhofen. Everything is arranged in styles and your average bottle costs roughly €0.80. Schneider Weisse Original was €0.95. Had some awesome fresh Pilsners from there. Wish I was back there. Franziskaner for breakfast on a powder day is a winning combination.
