You do have the Irish Haven, 4th and 58th, for a great pint of Guinness! (and to be fair last time I was there I think they had a Captain Lawrence on tap too)

HA! - my wife who has lived all over and in not so nice areas saw the Irish Haven recently and was like.. umm I get a weird vibe coming from that place... But also that is on the very fringe of the area.. I am right on the park so we really have next to nothing. Plus I have pretty high standards - like Owl Farm (Park Slope) or Owl's Head (Bay Ridge)

I remember 10 years back when I lived in Bushwick and it had nothing at all and look at it now..
Sunset Park is about to explode.. its the only are left in the waterfront side that has not flipped.. Also coincidentally the only area left in the original boundery of "Brooklyn" that has not fully redeveloped...

Apparently the Zitos space (actually still think of it as the Press 195 space over here) is going to be an Indian restaurant.

That Mavi jeans store on the corner seems perpetually empty. They have to be paying a ton of money on rent, and can't imagine they come close to breaking even.

Proves my point - Mavi Jeans is a huge company.
They can afford to take the hit within the company just to have the location/branding in the area.
Where as a one off shop will struggle big time unless they have some shaddy side biz going on.
That is actually common in the other undeveloped areas of the city.. but not in Par Slope..

I also think Whole Foods has taken a big chunk of busines out of Bierkraft personally...
With that said there is one thing to me that jumps out.
Bierkraft is a very oddly shapped place.. perhaps they are actually dividing it somehow to share the stores and the rent... that to me would be the most logical way they could stay open...
Or I could just be way off and completely wrong - and I wouldn't actually mind that.

"Renovations" - the age-old NYC excuse for closed and never reopening. Considering all the rumors over the last few months, I'm not holding my breath, but insane bottle prices notwithstanding, Bierkraft's (eventual) closure will be a loss to the neighborhood and city beer scene.

Yeah "Renovations" is the dying call of a business in NYC, esp when no renovations were really needed or predicted. I would love to give them the benefit of the doubt, but not in this economy.

They just closed up shop so abruptly, I wonder what will happen to all their beer, including all the cellared stuff and kegs. There's no way that stuff just sits/gets thrown out.

Irish Haven was actually where they shot all the interior bar scenes for The Departed, believe it or not.

Other than Owl's Head (which a good friend of mine owns), Bay Ridge has 2 other decent beer bars - Lockyard way up on 92nd and 5th (they've had HF Earl, Kosmic Motherfunker, BA Double Negative on tap) and Windy City Ale House on 3rd ave and 79th st - owners are from Chicago and always have great Goose Island stuff on tap. They've had Vanilla Rye and Coffee on tap 3 times since last year, and they've always lasted over a week at least.
